Social media platforms work on the propagation of relevant content to the users who desire it. This is heavily fed by the algorithm that governs that particular social media platform. It is also true that the algorithm for a social media platform is different from the others. Hence, the content that is pushed to the users may or may not match their actual taste. If you take a look at a certain celebrity’s Twitter account because you heard of a controversy, it doesn’t mean you would want to follow every actor that has ever worked in a movie. But that is how the social media platform sees you as.

The algorithm on almost all social media platforms has shifted from suggesting content that the user has been watching for the past month to suggesting questionable videos based on the user’s activity in the past few hours. The “You Might like” section on Twitter is a great example of why the suggestions that are a result of the platform’s algorithm are not always great. Well, it is pretty bad for the most part. Hence, it is only fair for users to get rid of it if they don’t want it. The following article is being written with the intent of providing you with all the information regarding the same. Keep reading.

Here is how you can turn off the ‘you might like’ recommendations on Twitter –
you might like Twitter

Open the Menu on the Twitter app which has all the options a user will need. At the very bottom you will see “more”. Select it and go to Settings and Support > Settings and Privacy > Notifications > Preferences > Push Notifications > Recommendations from Twitter. Once there, disable recommendations for “Topics”, “Popular in your network”, “Recommendations”, and “News”. Once these are disabled, the ‘You might Like’ section on Twitter will no longer suggest unnecessary accounts or posts.

As a safety measure, restart Twitter after making these changes. After the restart, you will not have to look at content or accounts that you are not interested in ever again.

Conclusion:

You may not always like what the algorithm on social media platforms shows you. And that’s completely fine. You should have command over the content that you are exposed to. And we have provided you with all the steps necessary to deal with the issue.
