Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t just have number 2 because it is a sequel; it also means there are two Spider-Mans that you can play as (that’s what we like to believe). The sequel to the first Spider-Man game has finally been released, and it’s time to crack some silence on the new game mechanics. There is a new fighting style that allows you to use the spider hands that you have seen in past Spider-Man movies. Yes, it’s the same suit that Iron Man himself made for Peter. But that’s not all; you can also switch between Peter and Miles at will. This article will clear up all doubts about switching characters in-game once and for all.
Miles is the rising Spider-Man that many have come to love in recent years, while Peter is the OG-friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, as always. Well, the previous Spider-Man game also featured both of them, but you couldn’t switch between them. However, this is possible in this game, although it has some limitations. So, let’s get right into the details.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: How to Switch Characters (Miles & Peter)
Spider-Man 2 is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. We have no idea whether it’ll reach a wider audience, but for now, all the control schemes will follow the latest PS5 DualSense controller layout. Let’s say it landed on Steam or something, then the keybind for this action will be different. Don’t worry; when that happens, we will be there to shed some light, as usual.
How can you switch characters in Spider-Man 2?
This is pretty straightforward. There aren’t any secret button combinations. You just have to access the FNSM application in-game by swiping left on the controller’s touchpad and holding the square key for 3 seconds. This will make you switch between Miles and Peter. The latest DualSense controller has a touchpad in the middle. It can be used to navigate the PS5 UI, and it can also be used for some in-game functions like accessing the FNSM Application. This application displays all the quests or missions. You can switch characters only after opening this application. While free roaming, you can switch between Miles and Peter as many times as you like. However, when it comes to missions, there are some limitations you have to keep in mind.
Restrictions & things you need to know
There are a few situations where you can’t switch between characters. They are listed below, so make sure to check them out.
- In the FNSM app, you can see the mission list. If a particular mission has two Spidey heads tagged into it, then the mission can be accessed by any of the two Spider-Mans. If it has only one Spidey head, then you will have to enter the mission as the corresponding Spidey.
- If you are on the main storyline of either character, like Dates with MJ, then again, you can’t switch. That’s how the story goes, right? Imagine Miles dating MJ!
- If a mission is specific to Miles, and let’s say you are using Peter, then the game will automatically switch you to Miles when the quest starts.
- When you start the game for the first time, the FNSM app will be broken. You must fix it by progressing further in the story. You can’t switch characters until you fix it.
