2023 was a great year for SoulsLike, and fans were able to enjoy some of the best games in the genre. Among these titles were Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio’s Lies of P. Released on September 19, 2023, the game received wide acclaim for its solid combat and was even nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Role-Playing Game at The Game Awards 2023. Players continue to enjoy the game, but unfortunately, Steam Deck users in particular seem to be suffering from a crashing and stuttering issue.
Issues like these are pretty common when it comes to the Steam Deck. While there are a lot of games that run perfectly fine on the Deck, there are also those that suffer from a myriad of technical issues. Plus, with Lies of P not being a Steam Deck Verified title, problems like these are bound to be there. So, can these issues be fixed? Well, let’s go ahead and find out!!
Lies of P crashing & stuttering on Steam Deck: How to fix it?
Since there’s no official fix for this right now, players will have to make do with the following workarounds. Try these and see if any of them are of help.
Update –
The very first thing that we suggest players do is update everything in order to get rid of these two issues. Check if there’s an update available for the game and SteamOS. If there’s one, download and install the update. However, if there’s no update available, try the next workaround.
Try different Proton versions –
A pretty common method of dealing with an issue like crashing one is simply switching to a different Proton version. You can start by trying out Proton Experimental and if that doesn’t work, switch to another one.
Reboot the Deck –
Besides the previous method, another “fix” you can use is this one. Some players are of the opinion that the stuttering issue is due to shader compilation and rebooting the Deck can help with that. To do that first, you need to close any game or app that you are running. Next, hold down the power button for about ten seconds. After the screen turns off, wait for a few minutes for the Deck to power itself back on, and then launch the game to see if the issue persists.
Transfer Lies of P to internal drive –
This one is mainly for those who have Lies of P installed on an SD card connected to the Steam Deck. What we suggest you do is, instead of keeping Lies of P installed on an SD card, transfer it over to your Deck’s internal drive. Doing so can help at times with the crashing issue, so try it once.
Use a launch command –
Some players had success dealing with the stuttering issue by using a particular launch command. For that, you will need to close the game and then click on the cog button on the game’s page on Steam. Next, select Properties > General and then copy-paste or type in the following command: “RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command%”. This command enables the VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library. Reinstall –
If none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help in dealing with the crashing and stuttering issue in Lies of P on the Steam Deck, we recommend that you reinstall the game. Reinstalling can sometimes help with resolving such issues, so give it a try.
