Apple game center not working: How to fix it
The Game Center not working issue has been associated with the iOS updates, namely iOS 14 and 15. On devices that run the latest iOS versions, there aren’t many reports regarding the same. Anyway, if you are running an Apple device with older iOS/iPadOS/macOS versions, here are the workarounds worth trying:
Disable Lockdown Mode
Although safer than the usual operating mode, there have been reports suggesting that Game Center doesn’t work in Lockdown Mode on an iOS device. So, what you need to do is disable it and then try again. To disable Lockdown mode, follow these steps:
- First, go to the Settings app of your Apple device.
- Next, select Privacy & Security.
- Here, find and select the Lockdown Mode option, then select the Lockdown Mode option.
- Next, tap Turn OFF Lockdown Mode.
- Now, restart your device and then check if the Game Center works.
Sign out and Sign in
Some users were able to fix the issue by simply signing out of their Game Center account and then signing back in. So, we recommend you do the same. If you are encountering an issue on the home page of Game Center, you won’t be able to sign out from there. For this, you have to first open a game that is linked with Game Center and then sign in. This should fix the issue.
Basics
Now, before trying other workarounds, make sure these pre-requisites are in check:
- Make sure that you’re signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID that you use on your other devices.
- Make sure that you’re signed in to Game Center with the same Apple ID that you use on your other devices. Go to Settings > Game Center to see the Apple ID that you’re using with Game Center.
Log out of Apple ID
If the issue persists, we recommend you log out of your Apple ID that is linked to your device and then log back in. Although not a guaranteed fix, it is still worth a try.
Enable/Disable iCloud Access for Game Center (most effective)
You can also try turning off the iCloud access settings of Game Center and then turning it back on to fix the issue. Here’s how to do so:
- First, open the Settings on your device.
- After this, select iCloud.
- Here, deselect the “Game Center App” in the APPS USING ICLOUD section.
- Once done, select it again.
- Now you can go to Settings, then Game Center to check if it works. This should fix the issue for good.
Reset Network Settings
This issue can also occur if the network connection that is used while trying to access Game Center is at fault. So, what you need to do is reset the network settings of your iPhone and then check if the issue persists. Doing so is quite easy. Here’s how:
- First, open the Settings app.
- Next, select General.
- Here, tap on the Transfer or Reset [Device] option.
- Select Reset and then the Reset Network Settings option.
- Confirm your selection and let the reset take place. Once completed, connect to the network to check if the issue persists.
- If it does, then try using a different network connection or switching to mobile data to verify whether the issue is limited to your home network.
Reset iPhone
Now, if none of the workarounds have been successful in fixing this issue, there is only one step left to try. And, that’s resetting your iPhone to restore its default configuration. Do note that doing so will wipe out all the data stored on your phone so tread accordingly. To reset your iPhone, follow these steps:
- As usual, begin by opening the Settings app on your device.
- Next, tap on the General option and select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Here, tap on the Reset option, and select the Erase All Content and Settings. Next, tap on Continue.
- You will required to enter the passcode (if applicable) to initiate the process. Once done, select Confirm.
- This will start the resetting process. Once the device is reset, sign in with your Game Center ID to check if the issue persists.
