For now, you are left with trying some user-suggested effective workarounds. However, these workarounds have been reported to fix the issue for many, which is why we recommend you don’t skip any of them.
1) Restart the application
The first and foremost step in troubleshooting any application-related issue is to just restart it. Make sure that the app is not running in the background by removing it from the Recent Apps tray and then launching it again. Doing so should fix the issue. If it doesn’t, try the next workaround.
2) Restart device
It is possible that this issue is occurring due to a bad boot or some application conflicts. So, before trying other workarounds, give your device a quick restart and then launch the application again to check if it loads.
3) Clear Cache (Android)
Now, most applications on Android devices run into various issues when the app cache is full or cluttered. So, one way to fix this is to just clear the cache. Doing so is easy. All you need to do is tap and hold the Google Photos app icon on your phone, and then select the App Info option. Now, go to Storage and then tap the Clear Cache option. After this, launch the Photos app to check if the issue persists. If yes, go back to the Storage menu of the app, and select Clear Data (make sure that data is backed up before you select this option). Now, open the Photos application.
4) Uninstall Updates
If you are encountering this issue right after you updated the Photos application, then it is possible that the update is the reason why this issue is occurring. So, what you can do is uninstall all the updates of the Google Photos application and then launch it to check if it works. How? It is simple. Just like in the previous workaround, tap and hold the Photos icon and select the App Info option. In the App Info menu, you should find the Uninstall Updates option by tapping the three-dot option. Select it, and confirm your selection. After this, reboot your device and then launch the app. This should fix the issue.
5) Disable VPN
If you are connected to a VPN while launching the Google Photos application, consider disabling it and trying again. Although VPNs can provide better security by masking your IP, they are known to cause issues related to client-server connections.
6) Update your device
On both iOS and Android devices, some users have mentioned that the issue has been fixed after they updated their device to the latest version. So, we recommend you give it a try as well.
7) Disconnect from the internet
Another workaround worth trying is to just disconnect your device from the Wi-Fi and then launch the Google Photos application. Now, go to the Settings menu, and then select Backup and Sync. Here, under the Cellular Data Back-Up section, select (activate) for Photos. Now, turn on mobile data and wait for the sync to be completed. After the process is completed, make sure to disable the Cellular Data Back Up option. Now, restart the Photos app. This should fix the issue for good.
8) Reinstall the application
Finally, if none of the workarounds are of help, consider reinstalling the application for a fresh start. After uninstalling Google Photos, head over to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to download/install it again. Once installed, sign-in, and then launch the application to check if the issue persists.
9) Sign In with a different account
It is also possible that the Google Account that is linked with Google Photos is the cause of this issue. To rule out this possibility, clear the data of the Google Photos application, and then sign-in with a different or secondary Google Account. If the application works, then the issue is related to your Google Account and not the application.
That said, these are the workarounds you can try for now to fix the Google Photos app crashing or not loading issue. If you find this guide informative, consider visiting Android Gram daily for more such content.
