Restart PC
Well, the fatal error crash can be caused by certain applications running in the background. So, to rule out this possibility, consider restarting your PC and then launching the game again to check whether the issue persists.
Launch Options
This is a workaround that has been reported to fix the issue for many. To fix the fatal error crashes in the game, you will need to launch it using DirectX 11. How? With the help of launch commands. For this, open Steam, go to Library, and then right-click on Avowed. Next, in the General tab, under the Launch Options textbox, enter the following command: “-d3d11”. Now, launch the game. The fatal error should no longer occur. If it does, try the next workaround.
Windowed Mode
If the game is crashing on your system after a while, then maybe it is due to the in-game settings used. So, try tweaking the game’s graphics settings, set them all to low, and then make sure that Display Mode is set to Windowed. One is the complex way which involves accessing this setting via your BIOS menu. The other is pretty simple. Download Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility and then install it. Via the application, you can adjust your CPU’s performance core ratio. Lower it to 51x or 52x and then check whether the fatal error occurs in Avowed.
Verify Game Files or Uninstall
If none of the given workarounds have been of any help, then consider verifying the game files via Steam to check for file corruption. The final step is to perform a full reinstall of the game. You will need to do it if verifying the game files also doesn’t bear any results.
