Thankfully, one of the game’s developers responded to the issue and even shared workarounds. Below we have included all of them.
Restart PC
Well, the fatal error crash can be caused by certain applications running in the background. So, to rule out this possibility, consider restarting your PC and then launching the game again to check whether the issue persists.
Launch Options
This is a workaround that has been reported to fix the issue for many. To fix the fatal error crashes in the game, you will need to launch it using DirectX 11. How? With the help of launch commands. For this, open Steam, go to Library, and then right-click on Avowed. Next, in the General tab, under the Launch Options textbox, enter the following command: “-d3d11”. Now, launch the game. The fatal error should no longer occur. If it does, try the next workaround.
Windowed Mode
If the game is crashing on your system after a while, then maybe it is due to the in-game settings used. So, try tweaking the game’s graphics settings, set them all to low, and then make sure that Display Mode is set to Windowed. Once done, restart the game and then play for an hour to verify whether the workaround is effective.
GPU Drivers
Another thing you need to make sure of is that your GPU drivers are updated. Outdated ones can behave differently with new games, which is why recommend that you visit the official Nvidia/AMD site and download the latest drivers for your GPU. Install them and then restart your PC before you launch the game.
Nvidia GPU users
If you have an Nvidia GPU and are encountering random crashes due to the fatal error in Avowed, one thing you can try is accessing the game’s settings menu and disabling DLSS. Next, set the Upscaling setting to TSR or None. This has been recommended by the game dev so make sure to try it out.
Update BIOS and Disable Multi-core Enhancement
This workaround is for those who know the ins and outs of their system. If you haven’t used or accessed your system’s BIOS settings, then we recommend you stay out of this. Now, if you know how to access the BIOS settings and how to update it, then do so. After this, access the BIOS menu and then go to Advanced Settings. Here, find the Multi-Core Enhancement option and disable it. If it was already disabled, then consider enabling it. After doing so, boot your PC and then launch the game.
Adjust the Performance Core Ratio of your CPU using Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility
For this workaround, you will need to change the Performance Core Ratio of your CPU to 51x/52x and then launch the game to check whether the issue persists. How to do this? There are two ways. One is the complex way which involves accessing this setting via your BIOS menu. The other is pretty simple. Download Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility and then install it. Via the application, you can adjust your CPU’s performance core ratio. Lower it to 51x or 52x and then check whether the fatal error occurs in Avowed.
Verify Game Files or Uninstall
If none of the given workarounds have been of any help, then consider verifying the game files via Steam to check for file corruption. The final step is to perform a full reinstall of the game. You will need to do it if verifying the game files also doesn’t bear any results.
For now, these are the most effective workarounds we suggest you try to fix the fatal error in Avowed. If you find this guide informative, consider visiting Android Gram for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
