Facing a “something happened on our end” error in Age of Empires? It usually points at a Microsoft Store issue. So, repairing the Store app has worked for many to get rid of the error. However, usually, there can be multiple reasons behind an error. Accordingly, there are several troubleshooting steps to try for the “something happened on our end” error in Age of Empires 4. Age of Empires 4 (IV) something happened on our end error: How to fix it?
Try the following troubleshooting techniques:
1) Pin & Launch Age of Empires 4 through the Taskbar.
Look for the ellipses (…) near the install/launch button on the Microsoft Store page. Click on it to trigger a pop-up and select Pin to Taskbar. Click on the Age of Empires 4 icon in the Taskbar to launch it.
2) Launch Age of Empires 4 from the Installed page.
– Open the Microsoft Store app and locate the ellipses (…) in the top-right. Click on it.
– Now, from the dropdown, select Downloads and updates.
– On the left side, locate the Installed tab and open it.
– Locate the game from the list of applications and click Launch
3) Check for pending Windows updates.
Check extensively and make sure there are no pending updates for Windows. There are many small patches released by Microsoft to keep the OS updated. You will need to update all of them to ensure no issues while launching Age of Empires 4.
4) Reset the Microsoft Store App.
Use the command wsreset to reset the Microsoft Store – delete the app’s cache. wsreset will not delete your installed apps or account settings. First, open the Command Prompt window (search for cmd in the Start menu. In the Command Prompt, type wsreset and then restart your machine. Once you relaunch the game after restarting, you may get a pop-up. Click the Yes option. The game will close automatically. If not, manually close it. Now, launch the game again, and this time, you should be able to play Age of Empires 4 in the desired language.
If you are on Windows 11, perform the above steps in the same way till you close the game manually. When you do so, the Xbox App will open. You can then launch the game.

5) Run the Microsoft Store App troubleshooter.
Run the automatic troubleshooter to detect and fix problems within Microsoft Store and Xbox App. First, select the Start button, and then select Settings. Navigate to Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then from the list select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.
6) Use the System File Checker to repair Microsoft Store.

7) Restart your machine multiple times.
Not seeing any issues, yet the error persists? Try restarting your PC multiple times. This may help detect any underlying, missing, or pending critical updates and trigger them.
8) Use Powershell to Repair or Reinstall the Microsoft Store app.
First, press the Windows Key + R keys to open the Run window. Next, type powershell, then select Run as Administrator and press Enter. Now, enter the following command on the PowerShell and press enter:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
Now, restart the PC and try launching Age of Empires 4 again.
9) Confirm Windows Display Language & Microsoft Apps Language Settings are the same.
First, open the Start Menu and click on Settings (gear icon). Locate Time & Language > Language. Now, see whether the language listed under Windows Display Language (Display) matches the same language listed under Preferred Languages (Store).
Check for the same in your Microsoft Account. To do so, log in to your Microsoft Account Profile and navigate to Your Info. Scroll down to locate Language Info. Now, these settings should match the settings in Windows.
10) Confirm that Windows Time is Set to the Appropriate Region & Time Zone.
Incorrect time settings can lead to unnecessary server troubles and cause a “something happened on our end” error. Do the following to check:
– First, type “region settings” into the Windows Search Bar and press Enter
– Now, make sure the region listed under the country & region dropdown is accurate
– Next, click Date & Time from the left-side navigation menu and check that your time zone is correctly listed from the dropdown menu
– Click Sync Now under Synchronize your Clock
– Restart your PC and launch the game
