Armored Core 6 Steam Deck Controller Not Working: How to Fix?
When players first faced this issue in Armored Core 6, the first thought was that the game might not be compatible with the Deck. However, that’s not true. Since Valve has labeled the game as “playable”, it should’ve run just fine. Then, why exactly is this problem occurring? We don’t have an answer yet, but we do have some workarounds for the same.
Select the Steam Deck Official Layout for Armored Core 6
Reddit user RoastCabose shared that you can make the game read the Deck’s controller inputs by using the default Steam Deck layout. The steps are simple. Visit your Steam library, locate Armored Core 6, and open the game page. Here, tap on the controller icon right beside the cog wheel icon. This is your Steam Input screen. Here, you’ll notice the current layout of your controller. Tap on it to open the controller layout selection page. Here, under the Recommended tab, scroll down and select the Steam Deck Official Layout. You can easily find the right option by looking at the Steam Deck icon right on the left side of the layout. Once you select the layout, you can start using your controller in AC6, and it should likely work.
Mapping the Controller
If you want to map the buttons of your controller, even that’s possible through the Steam Input window. From here, select the Edit Layout option. Scroll down and select the button whose function you want to change. On this page, go to the Game Actions tab. Typically, under the Game Actions tab, the options are supposed to be for the actions you take in the game. This can include stuff like reloading your weapons and all. As Reddit user RoastCabose shared, you need to use this configuration to edit your buttons.
Reorder Controllers
If you’re still unable to use your Steam Deck controller to play the game, it may be because that’s not configured as Controller 1 on your device. If you’ve plugged in another controller previously, chances are that the Deck set the external controller as controller 1. To change this, press the Steam button on your Steam Deck, and go to Settings. Here, go to Controller Settings. On this newly opened page, you can reorder your Steam Deck controller and choose it as Controller 1. Then, run AC6 and see if the controller works.
Well, that’s all that you need to do to fix the Steam Deck controller not working issue in Armored Core 6. Hopefully, with our help, you can now enjoy the game on your favorite device.
