Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fantasy RPG set entirely in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. In this RPG, you play as a character from a specific class with abilities and powers that influence your gameplay. The game also uses the popular 5th ruleset of D&D and is a turn-based adventure. It is full of momentous bosses, nail-hard enemies in the later stages, and a lot of lore and character-building. Your party will have to be well-rounded if you want to stand a chance against some of the tougher bosses in the game.
In BG3, there are various effects and statuses that each of your party members can suffer from. Some of these are inflicted by bosses, while others are caused by various in-game elements. This means you have to be worried about more than just taking straight-up damage in the game. The Spectator (Beholder) boss is one such annoying boss that inflicts these status effects on you and your party. In this article, we are going to walk you through how to defeat this boss in Baldur’s Gate 3. So, consider reading until the end.
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Spectator Boss Guide: How to defeat it?
There are technically two spectator bosses in the game. One is entirely optional, while the other is mandatory. This guide is split into two parts, sharing details on how to defeat each of them.
1). Optional Boss
This boss is released from the Iron Flask that is obtained in the Missing Shipment quest in the first act. The game does not tell you that dropping this flask or interacting with it will release the boss for you to fight. The easiest way to win this fight and defeat the Spectator is to throw the Iron Flask at a larger group of enemies. This is useful because it not only damages the group of enemies but also the boss. When released, the Beholder boss will attack the group of enemies. It is more than likely that a large enemy group will defeat him. You can even join the fight when its HP is low to end the battle quickly.
2). Mandatory Boss
This is a part of the Adamantine Forge questline where you have to free the NPC called Dhourn. He can be found in the Underdark region. These caves are dangerous and dark, and this boss will be lurking in these caves for you. When you come across the temple where the Dhorun is petrified, the Beholder/Spectator boss will attack you. This is a particularly annoying boss because it deals quite a bit of damage. It can paralyze, stun, wound, or fear members of your party. Here are some tricks to beat this boss:
- Stay 20-plus feet away from him. His attack range is limited to 20 feet and will not affect you if you are further away than that from him.
- Once the boss charms Dhourn and Drow to attack you, you need to break this spell by attacking them once. If you attack them more than once, they will become enemies, and you will need to fight them alongside the boss.
- Doing this will make sure that the balance of the fight stays in your favor.
- Deal enough damage over range, and the boss will eventually fall.
