Bioshock remastered console commands not working: How to fix it

Bioshock is a must-try game for all gamers. It is a beautiful franchise with some excellent storytelling and great world-building. If you are into RPGs and story-driven games, this is a must-play game for you. Since the original Bioshock is old and looks a little dated, the developers of the game decided to show it some love and remaster it for modern hardware. The developers have added some neat QoL changes to Bioshock Remastered, along with a lot of small and meaningful additions and it has been well-received by fans of the series. There is a glaring issue that is unique to the remaster, however: the issue of console commands not working.

The remastered version of the game allows you to use dev console commands. This essentially allows you to input commands into the game that change modifiable values and in-game mechanics. You can use it to give yourself infinite ammo or additional stat points that you can invest in something interesting. All of this is great for a story-driven game when you can access it. However, there are multiple reports from players stating that the console commands are not working as intended. So, we are here to share workarounds on how to fix it.

Well, although the issue is not widespread, it is still annoying. Anyway, here are a bunch of workarounds for you to try:

1). Add launch options in Steam

First, open Steam and click on Library to view your Steam games. Now, find and right-click on BioShock Remastered and select Properties. Here, in the General tab, click Set Launch Options. In the Launch Options textbox, type “-allowconsole” without the quotes. After this, launch the game and check if the console commands work. Console commands are bound to the TAB key by default but can be reconfigured as well.

2). Bypass the launcher

What this means is essentially running the .exe file of the game directly. First, you need to head over to the installation directory of Bioshock Remastered. This can vary based on platform but make sure to look in the directory you usually store your games in. After you find the game installation folder, follow these steps:

  1. The game installation folder should be located in this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Remastered\ContentBaked\pc\System.
  2. Once found, look for a folder titled ‘Build’. Post this, look for a folder titled ‘Final’.
  3. Here, the file is going to be BioshockHD.exe. This is going to be the executable file that will launch the game. Run this file directly to use console commands.

3). Launch Commands

If you are playing on Steam, you can use launch options to add a command and force the game to open a certain way. First, head over to the game’s installation directory by following this path: “D:\Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Remastered\Build\Final\BioshockHD.exe”. Now, right-click on the BioshockHD. exe file, and select Properties. Now, in the Target textbox, add the following commands: -allowconsole %command%. Click Apply and OK, and then launch the game.

Apart from these, there are not too many options to fix the issue. In any case, these are the two most used and reliable methods to make sure that the console commands work in Bioshock Remastered.

Well, that is all we have on how to fix the console command not working issue in Bioshock Remastered. If you found this guide helpful and would like to read more such content, make sure to visit Android Gram daily.
