Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the reboot of the beloved Modern Warfare 3 game from 2011, was released earlier this month to very harsh criticism from the players. The game has a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam, with only 28% of all reviews being positive. It is also, at the time of writing this article, number 17th on Steam250’s list of the worst Steam games of all time. Seemingly, the players feel like they have been ripped off due to the game being the same as the original. Another potential reason for this backlash is the sheer amount of bugs and glitches in this game. One of these is the infamous COD: Modern Warfare 3 FOV glitch.
FOV stands for ‘Field Of View’. It is basically the amount of the game that fits into your screen in one instant. A larger FOV means you can see more stuff around you at once. However, players have reported that COD: Modern Warfare 3 is having issues with the FOV. This is obviously quite frustrating, as in a first-person shooter game like this, you need a FOV that you are comfortable with. The issue is that the game suddenly zooms out the FOV mid-match. The magnitude of magnification varies, in some cases, the change is minor, in other more extreme cases the glitch causes the FOV to go from what the player has set to something absurd like 200, for example. So, keep on reading this guide until the end to find out how to fix this issue.
COD Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) FOV Bug: Is there any fix yet?
There is no official patch rolled out as of yet that addresses this bug. However, there does exist an unofficial solution found by the wonderful player base. The key is the weapon FOV. To fix this issue, set the weapon FOV to default. According to u/ohCriteq, your normal FOV can still be what it was, you just have to change the weapon FOV from wide to default. In order to do this, go to Settings > Graphics Settings > Field of View (under View) > More options, then change the weapon field of view to default.
Note that this is a temporary fix, and the default weapon FOV might take some getting used to. Other fixes include verifying the integrity of game files or simply restarting the game but their success rate isn’t quite high. Some players have reported that this glitch seems to happen more frequently in certain maps, so if you notice anything of the sort, it would probably be best to report it so that the developers can fix the issue as soon as possible.
