So, if you are encountering the same issue, here’s everything you need to know about fixing it.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Fatal D3D error: Is there any fix yet?
While an official fix is not available as of now, there are some general workarounds you can try. But do note that these aren’t guaranteed to fix the issue for good. But they are worth a shot.
1). Run the game as Administrator
The first step is to run this game as an Administrator. Since this will grant the game privileges on your system that were previously locked, it can really help with both performance and gameplay. It will also help resolve background software errors by overriding them to maximize the performance and resources your game can access.
2). Update/ Roll Back Graphics Drivers
Since D3D is typically a graphics-related error, you might be on outdated drivers. Make sure to install the latest drivers from your GPU’s companion app before you run the game again. If you had issues post-updating, you can roll the driver back through Device Manager. For this:
- Head to Device Manager and go to Display Adapters.
- Look for your GPU. Right-click and select the Properties option.
- Now, click on Roll Back Drivers in the Drivers tab.
- Wait for it to complete, apply the changes, and then restart your device.
3). Make sure your game is running on the GPU
For this, head over to the Graphics Settings menu on your Windows OS and add the game to the list of installed apps list. Now, select it, click on Options, and then select the High-Performance option. In rare cases, the game might fail to recognize your GPU and use the integrated GPU to run. In this case, the D3D error might occur with a game as demanding as Dragon’s Dogma 2.
4). Turn off Overclocking
If you are using any overclocking software like MSI Afterburner, make sure to turn it off. This can cause serious stability issues and games these days are trained to recognise it. You may be able to run the game without crashes or errors if you turn the overclocking off.
5). Verify game files/ Repair game files
You can also try repairing the game files. There can be a corrupt file that is causing this error as well. To verify/ repair them, follow these steps:
- Open Steam and head over to the Library. Now, right-click on DD2.
- Here, select the Properties option, and click on the Installed Files tab.
- Now, select the Verify Game Files option.
Once the verification is complete, restart your system and then start the game.
6). Update DirectX
It is a good idea to update the DirectX version on your PC from here. Install the package, restart your system, and then run the game to check if the issue persists.
7). Run in Windows 7 Compatibility mode
For this workaround, right-click on the game’s .exe file, that can be found in the installation directory and select the Properties option. Now, head over to the Compatibility tab, select the “Run the program in Compatibility mode for” option, and select Windows 7. Save the changes by clicking on OK and then launch the game. Doing so should fix the D3D error.
8). Reinstall
If the issue persists, we recommend reinstalling the game. Also, make sure that you install it on an SSD and not on a HDD as an SSD is much faster.
These are all the measures we recommend taking to fix the D3D Fatal error in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you find this guide helpful and want to read more such content, make sure to visit Android Gram daily.
