Some games are so graphically demanding that even with the latest and greatest hardware, you might experience crashes. Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to be that game. The in-game world is so dense and populated that even Nvidia’s flagship 4090s are struggling to cope with the graphical demands. This is bad news since it means frequent crashes and glitches, especially in menus. Likewise, a lot of players are complaining of issues where they crash in the Skills Buy or Equip menu in Dragon’s Dogma 2. So, if you too are encountering the same, consider reading until the end.
The crashes in this game are very interesting because they are on seemingly best-in-line hardware. The requirements of the game itself are so high that you need the most modern and fastest machines to run this game. If, despite this requirement, there are crashes, it points towards an optimization issue. It is something the developers will need to address but in the meantime, you can try a few workarounds which we have shared below.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Game crashing in Skills buy/equip menu Issue: Is there any fix yet?
Since we are not fully certain as to what causes this issue, the workarounds you can use to solve it are more or less generic. There is no optimization guide or settings change for the game here that will solve the issue for you. Since this is something that needs to be addressed by the developers, all you can do is wait for the devs to make the change while you use these workarounds to play the game. Here are some of the effective ones:
1). Adjust virtual memory
This is a setting that affects how much virtual memory games think your device has. You can always make edits to the Virtual RAM since it uses your system’s storage space and virtually enhances the RAM on your device. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open Start and type ‘Run’ in the box or press the Win+R command.
- Type in “sysdm.cpl” in the Run box and hit enter.
- Now, this is the System Properties tab. Here, click on the Advanced Tab.
- Next, look for the Performance tab. Here, click on Settings.
- You will see a Performance Options dialog box appear. Now, you will need to select the Advanced tab once again.
- After this, in the Virtual Memory section, click on Change and adjust the virtual memory setting. Change the initial size to 24576 and the max size to 32768.
- Once done, save the changes.
This method is known to prevent in-game crashes and should fix the issue in DD2 as well.
2). Verify game files
There could be corrupt files that are stopping your game from running as intended. To rule out this possibility, verify your game files. To do this, follow these steps:
- Head to Steam and go to Library. Now, right-click on DD2 and select the Properties option.
- Select the ‘Installed Files’ tab.
- Here, you should be able to see the ‘Verify the Integrity of Game files’ option.
- Click and wait for verification to complete. Once the verification is complete, restart your device.
3). Lower in-game settings
If you are able to load into the game and access its settings menu, consider lowering the in-game settings. The applied settings preset might be too much for the game to handle, which is why the crashes may be occurring. Also, don’t forget to decrease the in-game resolution (1280 x 720 can work), as it might fix the issue too.
4). Check graphics drivers and enable Maximum Performance mode
Make sure you are using the latest version of your graphics drivers. Also, if you are running a Nvidia Card, you should enable the Maximum Performance mode on your GPU while running the game. You can do so by following these steps:
- First, open the Nvidia Control Panel, go to ‘Program Settings’ and then select the DD2 (click on ‘Add’ if the game is not on the list).
- Once selected, scroll down to find the ‘Power Management Mode’ option.
- Now, set it to Prefer Maximum Performance / High Performance Processor.
- Next, exit the Nvidia Control Panel and launch the game to check if the crashing issue persists.
5). Cap framerate and turn on Vsync
If the crashing issues persist, you should consider changing the VSync setting to Off in-game and ON in the Nvidia Control Panel. Next, cap the framerate to around 60 (preference really). This has solved the crashing issues for some players and can work for you as well.
Anyway, these are all the workarounds you can try to fix the crashing issues in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you find this guide helpful and want to read more such content, make sure to visit Android Gram daily.
