While the debate of whether a keyboard/mouse combo or controller is better for gaming continues, it is quite known that controllers are most preferred to play racing games. Be it Forza Horizon 5 or Need for Speed Unbound, the use of controllers in such games is high. Similarly, as Japanese Drift Master has been released on PC, there are players who have plugged in their controllers to play the game only to get caught off guard as their controllers are not working. If you too are facing the same issue, this is just the guide you need. Here, we have shared everything related to the controller situation in JDM along with workarounds to fix the issue for good.
As of now, full controller support for Japanese Drift Master is available for Xbox controllers only. And the developers recommend playing the game with a controller for the best possible experience. But then why is your controller not getting recognized or working in-game? Maybe you are using a controller that is currently not supported by the game? Well, let’s take a look at some workarounds first.

Restart
Before you try any workaround, we suggest that you first restart the game and your PC to rule out any temporary issues that might be causing the game to not recognize the controller. After restarting, if the issue persists, try the next workaround.
Disable/Enable Steam Input
This controller not working issue in JDM isn’t exclusive. Other games also fail to recognize controllers when connected to a PC. But there is a unique workaround to help you bypass it. That’s by enabling/disabling Steam Input. For this workaround, go to Steam and open Library. Now, right-click on JDM and select Properties. Select the Controller tab and in the Override setting, toggle the Steam Input setting to Enable/Disable based on what’s already selected. If it’s disabled, enable it. If it’s enabled, disable it. Once done, restart Steam and then launch the game to check whether the controller works.
Disconnect other input devices from your PC
If you are planning to play JDM with a controller, make sure that you’ve removed all other input devices from your PC except the controller. It is possible that the game is recognizing a different input connected to your PC, due to which the controller isn’t working. So, do this and then check if the issue persists.
Use supported controllers
JDM currently offers full controller support for Xbox controllers, so if you are using any other controller, then don’t expect full compatibility. You may have to manually assign some controls via Steam input or use a custom configuration for the connected controller to work.
