The multi-player game supports up to four players in both local and online in-game modes. The game involves a chaotic kitchen experience combined with survival and simulation gameplay. Backing up save files is always a smart idea as you will need them to preserve your in-game progress. Many Overcooked fans have previously exclaimed disappointment upon losing in-game progress due to changing PCs, reinstalling, or even corruption of game files. So, here’s where you should look if you want to locate the Overcooked 2 save files on your PC.
Where are the save files of Overcooked 2?
It is available in the ‘AppData‘ folder in the C: drive of the computer. To navigate to that folder go to C drive, click on users and click on the username. Then select Appdata. Sometimes the AppData can be unknowingly saved in a hidden folder. In that case, click the Show hidden files option and you will be able to see it. After that go to Local or LocalLow and select Team17. After that open the Overcooked 2 folder where you will find a User ID file.
A User ID is used to uniquely identify users on a device. Some files can be saved manually by the user at specific locations. In this location using the profile name or the unique number (ID), the files are saved. This changes from user to user.
Similarly if your PC is on OSX navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team17.Overcooked2/{64BitSteamID}\Team17\Overcooked2\[SteamID]
The above folders are not exactly the folders that the game saves data in. If the game sometimes finds it hard to save the files, it will create new ones. Also, the contents of the above folders should be copied in the below locations to make sure this data is used.
If you are on Windows: AppData\LocalLow\Team17\Overcooked2\Team17\Overcooked2\[SteamID]\
For OSX users: ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team17.Overcooked/[SteamID]
Steam keeps multiple user IDs in its system, even if the most commonly used is steamID64. This stores 17 numbers and starts with 7656. Also by going to steam profile settings you can customize the URL according to your preference. Origin similarly uses a randomized set of characters that includes both letters and numbers. For example Bobyawaf277sfjjf. Uplay, another such platform uses the GUID format to store the same.
Overcooked 2 Steam Cloud issue
Users reported an issue connected to the same domain. Normally, a saved in a folder on the PC contains all the game cloud data. Sometimes these files go missing. The steam cloud might have saved the files in a different file location due to this issue.
Steam seems to be working on this issue which will fix a dedicated place to do this. In Windows or OSX, the data after the update will be saved in the correct folder from the steam cloud. No update is announced yet for Linux users, hence they will have to wait for the fix.
