The ultimate rental solution with a huge user base has been troubling users since very recently. RentCafe, a service that allows its users to search for rental properties, and apply/complete the whole process online, is quite popular among users who are often in search of rentals. Given the fact that it allows users to set up autopay for rent, this feature comes in handy for many. However, if you too are someone who has relied on this autopay feature only to get hit with late fees after the last day to pay rent has passed, you are not alone. The autopay feature in RentCafe isn’t as functioning or reliable as the service claims. There are multiple reports from users stating that their rents weren’t paid by the autopay feature, and for this, they had to incur late fees. While these reports were shared as long as 2 years ago, recent reports suggest that the issue is back. So, how to fix the issue? Is there any fix? Continue reading to find out.
The autopay not working issue in RentCafe is more common than most users expect it to be. While for some only the autopay feature doesn’t work, others have faced issues paying rent manually via the service as well. So, if you too are encountering a similar situation, here’s everything you need to know about fixing the issue.

RentCafe autopay not working: How to fix it
Fixing the autopay not working issue in RentCafe isn’t really in the hands of its users, as it is a server-side issue. However, there are a few workarounds worth trying that we have shared, so give them a shot:
Wait for a few days (until the deadline)
If you have set up auto-pay a few days before the actual deadline to submit rent, then simply wait around one or two days for the payment to reflect in your RentCafe account. Most payments, as stated on the official RentCafe website, take around 1-2 days to process, which is why waiting might be the solution to this issue. But if the given time period has passed, then it is clear that the feature isn’t working.
Pay manually
Instead of relying on the auto-pay service, consider paying your rent the usual way, either via the service or by hand.
Check whether the service is operational
If you didn’t already know, RentCafe has not been working for everyone for the past few hours, as it seems that it has suffered a server-wide downtime. Multiple users have reported that they have been unable to pay their rent or access the auto-pay feature of RentCafe for the past 6 hours or more. So, now you know the cause. As to when this issue will be fixed, there is no official information available right now.
Disable Autopay and Re-enable
For starters, you should disable the autopay feature in your RentCafe account and then re-enable it to check if the issue persists. To disable autopay, follow these steps:
- Open RentCafe and log in with your credentials. Here, in the menu section, click Payments.
- Now, select the Auto-pay Setup tab, and then select the Delete button next to the automatic payment option that you want to cancel.
- However, in case the Auto-pay Setup tab is not accessible or visible, select the Set Up Automatic Recurring Payments option on the Make Payments tab, and then click the Cancel Scheduled Auto-Pay button.
- Once this is done, you can re-enable Auto-Pay to check if the issue persists.
Refresh page repeatedly
If you are unable to pay your rent via the service, you can try refreshing the RentCafe page multiple times. Doing so has worked for some users, as they were able to pay their rent. So, you can try this as well. Also, we suggest using different browsers to initiate payment for maximum chances of success.
That being said, the only valid solution for now is to wait for RentCafe services to be back online. It can take a few more hours or maybe even a day, but waiting is the only way to go.
