Steam not going online (2022): Fixes & Workarounds.
If you are unable to get your Steam back online, then you can try these methods to fix this issue. Note that there might be several causes for this but for the sake of this article, we have only mentioned the most probable ones. Before we begin, you should first check if Steam’s servers are working or not. You can check this through Steam’s official Twitter page. You can also find the information on the internet. Next, you should also restart the Steam app and your PC. This method also helps to resolve this issue.
Reset Winsock-
1) Press the Windows key and then type cmd to open Command Prompt.
2) Now, type the following commands and press Enter after each one of them:
‘netsh winsock reset catalog’
‘netsh int ip reset reset.log’
3) Now, restart your PC and launch Steam. This should fix your issue for good. But if it did not, then try the steps below.
Check your Internet connection-
1) Make sure that you are connected to the internet before trying to go Online in Steam.
2) Press the Windows key and type Control Panel.
3) Now click on Network and Internet option.
4) Next, check if your system is connected to the network. You can change the settings and connect to a stable network and try launching Steam again.
Clear your download cache-
1) Open your Steam app then click on the Steam option on the top left of the screen.
2) Select Settings and then click on Downloads.
3) Now, click on the Clear Download Cache option and then select OK.
4) Once the process is complete, Steam will ask you to re-login. Once you do that, the app should function as intended.
Run Steam as admin-
You can modify your Steam shortcut to resolve this issue as well:
2) Locate your Steam Client- it will usually be installed in the C: drive. Now, right-click on it and choose to create a shortcut of the original app in the same directory.
3) Now, right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.
4) Next, go to the Shortcut tab and locate the Target option.
5) Here, add -tcp at the end of the file name. So now the text in the Target dialog box will look like this- “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam|Steam.exe”-tcp.
6) Now click on Apply then OK and then use this shortcut to launch Steam.
Make sure that Steam is not running in Compatibility mode-
1) Locate your Steam client and right-click on it. Now click on properties.
2) Go to the Compatibility tab and uncheck the “Run this program in Compatibility mode for:” option.
3) Now, click Apply and then OK. Restart your system and try launching Steam again.
Change the Internet Settings-
1) Open Control Panel from Windows Settings.
2) Now, head over to the Network and Internet option.
3) Next, go to the Network and Sharing Center option.
4) Now, click on the Internet Options at the bottom left of the screen.
5) From the new window that popped up, select the Advanced tab and scroll down to locate the Security option.
6) Here, uncheck the Enable Enhanced Protected Mode option.
7) Restart your PC and try launching Steam again.
