Just hours after the game’s global release, the Steam discussion forum has been filled with countless reports from players facing issues in-game. One such issue is the progress not saving problem. Manually create save file location
Some players have found that the absence of the Saved folder inside the directory where the save files should be present is the cause behind this issue. So, to fix this, you can try creating the folder manually and then check whether the progress is saved. To do this, first, head over to this directory: C:\Users\<your username folder>\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved. If you can’t find the Oblivion Remastered folder inside the My Games folder, create it, and then inside the Oblivion Remastered folder, create the Saved folder. After doing this, launch the game and then check whether the game is able to save your progress. If not, try the next workaround.
Controlled Folder Access
It is also possible that the game’s access to certain directories has been restricted, due to which it is unable to write your progress in the save file. So, to fix this, you will need to check the Protection history section of the Windows Security menu and then remove the restrictions imposed on the game files. To find this, first open Windows Settings, and then select the Privacy & Security option. After this, click on Windows Security. Now, select Virus & Threat Protection and scroll down to the Ransomware protection section. Here, select Manage Ransomware Protection. Now, under the Controlled Folder Access section, select the Block History option. Inside this, you will need to find all the files that are related to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Select them and then click on Action > Allow on Device. Do this for every game-related file you find there.
Once done, go back to the previous menu and select the Allow an app through Controlled Folder Access option. Click on Add an allowed app and then Browse All Apps. After this, go to the game’s installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered\Binaries\Win64) and add its .exe (OblivionRemastered-Win64-Shipping.exe) to the list. Also, don’t forget to add Steam’s .exe file to the list. After you do this, you can launch the game, progress a bit, and then save your progress. Quit the game and launch it again to check if the progress is stored.
Note: For the GamePass version, you will need to carry out the same steps, as the save file location is the same.
Well, these two workarounds should be enough to help you fix the unable to save progress issue in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. If you find this guide informative, consider visiting Android Gram for more such interesting guides on a daily basis.
