The Outer Worlds Best Steam Deck Settings for High FPS & performance?

The Steam Deck is a neat piece of hardware catered to players who like gaming on the go. Not only is it one of the best gaming handhelds on the market right now, but it is also one of the most compatible ones. This is unprecedented because of the sheer size and portability of the device. This also means you no longer need to buy a bulky PC or laptop to play games on. The Outer Worlds is one of these games that takes the Steam Deck seriously and allows you to enjoy its linear story on the Deck. That being said, the Deck is still limited by its hardware and needs some settings optimization before you can play most games at high frame rates. Similarly, if you want to get High FPS & Performance on the Deck while playing The Outer Worlds, here’s the guide you need.

Since The Outer Worlds is a graphically demanding game, there are a lot of optimizations you need to apply to run it on the Deck smoothly. The more you streamline and optimize the game, the better it is going to perform on the handheld. While initially, this might not seem worth the effort, it will eventually lead to immense increases in performance and gameplay experience.

The Outer Worlds is an award-winning single-player RPG that takes you across multiple planets in an adventure of epic proportions. While the story itself is the mainline, the game is a graphical marvel as well. You really want to be able to take in the splendid sights this game tends to offer when you are on the planets. From vegetation to foliage, this game has a lot of detail and fidelity if you want to push your machine. Keeping in mind that this is a single-player game and that it is graphically dense, you shouldn’t expect much FPS on your handheld. No matter how much you push the Steam Deck, an average FPS of 50-57 FPS is what you will get at best. That said, here are the best settings you need to apply:

Best settings for Performance

There are many settings in the game that you have to tinker with to get the most out of it on the Deck. Listed below are the same settings, in the same order as the game:

  • Window Mode: Fullscreen.
  • Screen resolution: 1280×800.
  • Frame rate limit: 60 FPS
  • VSync: On
  • 3D Resolution: 100%
  • Motion Blur: Off.
  • Gamma: 40% (subjective)
  • FSR 2: Off
  • Field of View: 75 (subjective)

Apart from these, there are also graphics quality settings you need to consider and change. Those are as follows:

  • Quality: Custom
  • Screen Effects: Low
  • Screen Space Global Illumination: Off
  • View Distance: Very High
  • Shadows: Low
  • Textures: Medium
  • Visual Effects: Medium
  • Foliage: Medium
  • Chromatic Aberration: Off

Once you apply these settings in-game, save the changes and restart the game. You will now see consistent performance in the 50 FPS or above range, even when you are doing fast-paced activities in dense locations. Since this is an RPG and a single-player game, the framerate beyond this will really not matter. While it is true that higher frames make the game a lot smoother to look at, anything over 30–40 FPS in a single-player game is considered ideal, if not good. In case you do want higher frame rates, you can opt to reduce the graphical settings even more and increase/remove the FPS cap setting.

Well, now you know how you can get the most out of your Steam Deck’s hardware while playing The Outer Worlds. If you found this guide helpful and would like to read more such content, don’t forget to visit Android Gram daily.
