The recently released minimalist tower defense strategy game Thronefall has been a huge hit. Developed and published by GrizzlyGames, it is a classic strategy game, minus the complex strategy elements. In short, you have a kingdom and your primary objective is to defend it. Featuring the popular hack-and-slash gameplay, Thronefall’s success is the perfect example that shows that the craze for minimalistic single-player games has not died yet. But since the game was released in 2024, and now every other game released offers multiplayer gameplay, it is obvious that many players are curious to know whether Thronefall will receive a multiplayer co-op mode. Well, if you too are wondering about the same, this is just the guide you need.
Multiplayer games, especially co-op multiplayer, no doubt, provide a very engaging experience as players get to enjoy the virtual world alongside their friends. In recent years, many co-op-based games have been released worldwide, and they have received worldwide praise. Similarly, do the developers at GrizzlyGames have any plans to ride the multiplayer train with Thronefall, bringing it to a far larger audience? Let’s find out.

Now, there are various factors that contribute to the availability and feasibility of a multiplayer mode in a game. First, it comes to the overall demand. Next, the game and its features. Then comes manpower. If all these criteria are in favor, then only a team can even start to think of including a multiplayer mode in their single-player game. Well, the demand for a multiplayer co-op mode in Thronefall is surprisingly high, so there are no issues on this front. Coming to the game, given that it offers a top-down view of the world and features hack-and-slash gameplay, we can’t think of any reasons why a multiplayer mode won’t increase the game’s playability factor. So far, it seems that both the demand and the game’s core are in favor of a multiplayer mode. So, where’s the issue? Well, currently, the lack of enough manpower is the issue restricting the developers from working on a multiplayer mode for Thronefall.
Developer response
As a part of their official response to a question in their FAQ section of the game’s Steam discussion forum, the developers stated the following:
No. While we agree that this would be really fun, being just two people our time and resources are unfortunately very limited. Anything multiplayer, even if it is “just” local, is extremely time intensive from a development perspective, and we don’t want to release anything half-baked.
Well, it is pretty clear that a multiplayer mode is not on the list of priorities for the developers and that’s mainly because they are a two-person team with very limited resources and time. So, while they are open to the idea of adding multiplayer to Thronefall, it currently isn’t feasible for them. Maybe in the distant future things will change, but nothing certain can be said for now. If more information regarding the same is made available, we will make sure to update this article accordingly.
