Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, as the name suggests, is a remaster of the first three entries in the Tomb Raider series. Developed by Aspyr, the game was just recently released on February 14, 2024, for all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Although the remaster is quite good, players have been complaining about a major stuttering issue in the game.
This one in particular is a pretty big issue right now. Besides stuttering during normal gameplay, players have also been encountering stutters during cutscenes. It’s so frustrating that a lot of players are starting to refund the game. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, let’s go ahead and find out!!
Tomb Raider I-III (1,2,3) Remastered Stuttering issues: How to fix it?
Players can use the following workarounds until an official fix is released for this issue. Try these and see if any of them are of help.
Restart –
A player was able to fix this issue by simply restarting the game. As such, we suggest you try this method before others and check if it works. In case the issue continues to be a nuisance, switch to another workaround.
Disable Steam Overlay –
A pretty common fix for this particular issue is to disable Steam Overlay in case it’s enabled. Now, to do that, you just need to open Steam Settings and switch to the In-Game tab. Take a look at the right side of the screen, and right at the top, you will find the Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game option. Toggle it off and get back to the game. While you are at it, we also recommend that players disable V-Sync too.
Change your preset method to Prefer Layered on DXGI Swapchain –
This one is particularly for players who are using a NVIDIA card. If you happen to be one of them, then open the Nvidia Control Panel and select Tomb Raider Remastered from the Program Settings under Manage 3D Settings. Next, scroll down until you find the Vulkan/OpenGL preset method. Change the option to Prefer Layered on DXGI Swapchain and save your settings.
Toggle on OpenGL Triple Buffering –
For AMD GPU users, what’s recommended is to launch AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition and switch to the Gaming tab. Next, scroll down, and under the Advanced section, you will find the OpenGL Triple Buffering option. Enable it and close the application.
Update –
Players should make sure that both their graphics card and the system are up-to-date with the latest version. Check if there’s an update available and if there is one, go ahead and download it. Once the updates are installed, launch the game and see if the issue persists.
