2) Check Controlled Access Folder and allow Vanguard’s .exe file.
If you use Windows Defender, you will need to allow Call of Duty Vanguard to access controlled folders. To do so:
– Firstly, open Virus & threat protection settings from Start Menu.
– Next, scroll down and select Manage ransomware protection.
– Select Allow an app through Controlled folder access under Controlled folder access.
– Lastly, select Add an allowed app, and browse for the game’s location/directory.
– Remember to add both the game’s main .exe file and the launcher’s .exe file.
Try running the game after you change this setting. If you face the aforementioned error code again, go to the Controlled folder access setting (perform steps 1 and 2) and turn it off entirely. You shouldn’t face the error code again.
If you are using third-party antivirus software, you will have to add Call of Duty Vanguard to its list of exceptions. Open the management app of your antivirus, and look for a setting indicating ‘ransomware’, ‘add exceptions’, or ‘allowed apps’. Add the game to the allowed list, and you will be good to go.
3) Check Activision’s servers.
If none of the above workarounds worked, it may be a problem on the server’s side. Check the status of COD servers from here. You can also keep a lookout for back-end (server) maintenance time or updates as most players report facing issues during such times.
