Shopify error 404- How to fix it?

Error 404 in seen in situations when the URL entered is invalid or when the page is not available. At times when the content on a URL is removed or no longer available, the page does not load and shows an error 404. On Shopify, you can fix this issue effectively with a little effort. Try any of the following fixes to correct your issue-

1. Try redirecting the old URL (which is broken or throws the error 404) to a new URL. This is a permanent solution. By doing this, you can help your users to move to the same or a similar but working webpage to continue shopping/browsing. Here’s how you can do this-

A) Open your Shopify site, go to dashboard. From the menu, Select navigation option.

B) Next, you will see an option for linking URL redirects. Click on the Add your first URL redirect option.

C) Now, add the current URL and where you want the error page to get redirected.

2. If redirection doesn’t work, try restoring the deleted page or URL and make required changes to it. This will help maintain your SEO strength and good user experience as people will see no or fewer 404 errors. The error 404 is triggered majorly due to a broken link on your end. In case of external factors causing this error, you can simply redirect it to your own Shopify store.

3. At times 404 errors can be temporary. To make sure, you can check for Shopify’s server updates. The error can also show up due to temporary service outage.
