err_ssl_protocol_error on Windows 11: How to fix it?

It is very difficult for a non-tech expert to get over the perplexing nature of err_ssl_protocol error. Hence, here is an article to help you solve this error and keep browsing the internet without interruptions.

The ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL error is associated with the security certificate of a website. You can get this error if your system does not consider a website to be safe. Though the error might look intimidating, its fixes are very simple. Below mentioned are all the relevant fixes for this issue. Take a look and make the appropriate changes to your device.

Fixes for ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR on Windows 11:

1) Clear internet explorer history:

Press the ‘Windows key + R’ on your keyboard. Type in “inetcpl.cpl” in the Run dialog box and press Enter. In the window that pops up, switch to the ‘General’ tab and make sure to check the box that deletes the browsing history and other temporary data. Now, click on ‘Delete’. This will clear your internet explorer history and solve the err_ssl_protocol_error in the process.

2) Clear SSL state:

Press the ‘Windows keys + R’ again on your keyboard. Type in “inetcpl.cpl” in the dialog box and press enter. This time you have to go to the ‘Content’ tab and simply click on ‘Clear SSL state’. This will refresh the security protocol and let you use your browser without being interrupted by err_ssl_protocol_error.

3) Internet Properties:

Repeat the same process again by pressing ‘Windows + R’ or you can also click on ‘Internet Options’ from the Control Panel. If you have launched the Run program, type in “inetcpl.cpl” and press Enter. Go to the ‘Security’ tab and make sure the ‘Security level for this zone’ is set to ‘Medium’. Then, beside ‘Trusted Sites’, click on Sites. Add the URL of your primary use browser and click on ‘Add’. Close the window and restart your computer.

4) Browser properties:

Search for your browser in the search box present on the taskbar. Right-click on it and select ‘Open file location’. Inside the file, right-click on the browser again and select ‘Properties’. Go to the ‘Shortcut’ tab and click on the ‘Target’. In the end, add “ –ignore-certificate-errors” and click on ‘Apply’ > ‘Continue’. Now, launch your browser and check if the err_ssl_protocol_error still persists.

5) Update browser and clear browsing history:

Launch your browser and check for any available updates by going into the ‘About’ section of the browser. Install the updates that might be available. Also, clear the browsing history by going into settings. Once, you are done with these steps, close your browser and restart your PC. Everything should return to as it was and err_ssl_protocol_error shouldn’t bother you anymore.
