Alone in the Dark is a cult classic horror game that a lot of people really enjoyed when it first came out. The initial release of the game was in 1992, with some of the best graphics of the time. It was so well received that there are many installments in this series, as well as a planned remake that is due to be released on Steam in 2024. Well, as the game approaches its release date, what really interests players is whether it will be available on the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck, with its portable layout and lightweight operating system, makes it easy for a lot of people to play games on the go. Since Alone in the Dark is a horror game, people will likely play it during breaks. This means the Steam Deck and its portability are going to come in handy for a lot of players. Unfortunately, there has been no word from the developers of the game regarding whether it will officially be available on the Steam Deck yet.
Alone in the Dark (2024) game Steam Deck Support details: Is it available?
The 2008-released game, Alone in the Dark is not available on the Deck officially. As listed on ProtonDB, the game is classified as Bronze, which means that although it runs, there are frequent crashes. So, while there is no official word from the developers regarding the possibility of the game being playable on the Steam Deck, we think it might be playable.
How can we be so sure?
In 2023, there was a stand-alone prologue for the game released on Steam. This prologue is known to be compatible with the Steam Deck as Reddit users soon discovered. This sheds some light on how the full remake will run on the Steam Deck. When the remake does come out for PC, it is more than likely that it will run flawlessly on the Steam Deck. It is entirely possible that the developers will address this closer to the official launch of the game on Steam. In the meantime, all we can do is wait. It is also very likely that this support is going to be unofficial. This means that although the game doesn’t get the Official Deck Verified badge, it will still run on the handheld. We have seen this before with other games, such as BioGun Clinical Trials but once again, an official confirmation is needed.
