Some of the most annoying creatures in Ark Survival Ascended are on the beaches as soon as you spawn. The turtle, or Carbonemys, is one of them. Why are we insisting that it is annoying? Well, for starters, you are too low-level to kill it for hide; second, it chases you across the coast to fight you despite being very slow. If that is not annoying, we don’t know what is. Apart from this initial annoyance, they are actually pretty good tames, if you just need a dino to swim around in.
The turtle (Carbonemys) is an herbivore with a passive temperament in-game. This means it will not attack unless provoked. If provoked, it will defend itself and attack you. It has a thick, spiky shell that is very distinctive. Apart from this, it is very slow on land but a pretty decent swimmer in water. If you are desperate for a water mount, you can tame this dino for that exact purpose. However, if you are wondering how to tame this dino in-game, consider reading this guide until the end.
Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Carbonemys Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
Taming one of them is an easy but annoying process. They are usually low-level tames, so you essentially don’t need much. Just something to knock it out with and something to feed it. Here is how to go about doing this in-game:
How to tame it?
To tame it, take something that deals torpor, like a slingshot or a bow with tranq arrows. Now, aim for the legs or the head of the Carbonemys and shoot. Run around in circles and keep doing this until it is knocked out. Once knocked out, you can feed it berries or regular kibble to tame it. Once fed and tamed, you can ride it around with a saddle.
Tips and tricks?
There isn’t much you can do with this turtle. The main advantage you have is that its shell takes very little damage. This means you can use it as a tank to soak turrets in PvP or sacrifice it to creatures to impregnate, like the Rhyniognatha since they can take a beating. There isn’t much else they can do in-game. They are pretty decent swimmers, so you can take them scuba diving if you really want to, but they are outclassed by pretty much anything that isn’t another turtle and can swim.
Their main advantage is their massive shell, which significantly reduces the damage taken to the creature itself. If you really want, you can cryopod some of them with very high health up and throw them at dinosaurs chasing you. It will sacrifice them, but you can make an escape that way. Its main use, as mentioned above, is to soak turrets in PvP gameplay. In PvE, they are just a basic first tame that will protect you against some smaller dinos like raptors. Even in this case, trikes are the better choice.
