The Giganotosauras (Giga) is supposed to be the largest land-based carnivore to ever exist. It takes the spot as Ark’s Biggest and Baddest Dino. They are so strong that they get significant nerfs to their HP, attacks, and buffs when you tame one. Wild Giga’s are absolutely terrifying to any level player in Ark Survival Ascended unless you have broken dinos by breeding and mutating them. Tamed gigas take a huge nerf to both health and damage, which makes them incomparable to wild gigas entirely. Despite this nerf, they are the hardest-hitting dinos you can get in Ark without any additional status effects or breeding. So, if you are wondering how to tame one in the game, consider reading this guide for more details.
Ark Survival Ascended takes the Survival Evolved formula and makes very few changes. It is largely a graphical overhaul of the base game, and it does this very well. If you want to enjoy the graphics, this is absolutely the game for you. Apart from taming baby dinos and a few changes to resource spawns, most of the game is the same. The original game made Gigas some of the strongest dinos; it holds true in ASA as well.
ARK Survival Ascended (ASA) Giganotosaurus Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
Taming a Giga is no joke. You will need to prepare and get a lot of things ready before you can set out and tame one. Since this is a knockout tame, you will need to knock the giga out. This is easier said than done because of how much torpor they have and how quickly they wake up. Anyway, for more details, continue reading.
Requirements
You will first need to have unlocked Shocking Traq Darts (yes, this is an essential), and a host of other things. You will also need to prepare and make multiple stone traps or metal traps. Since the giga can damage both stone and metal, you will need to have more than a few of them ready to go. You will also need multiple large bear traps to trap the giga and hold it in place while you trap it and begin the taming. If you have a flier that can keep you out of reach, this will be a lot easier.
How to tame them?
As mentioned above, this is a dinosaur you will need a trap for. The first step is to make a large-ish enclosure of Dinosaur Gateways. You can use stone or metal based on your level and the level of the giga you want to tame. There is more risk in using stone structures, though. This is just so that the Giga cannot naturally go over them (climb over them). Once you make this enclosure, you want to place a few large bear traps and lure the giga towards it. Once the giga steps on a bear trap, run around and place a few gates behind it (towards its tail) to make sure it cannot run away. If you want to experiment with other traps, we recommend watching Captain Fatdog’s video on giga traps. After you have trapped it, shoot it using a longneck rifle and shocking tranq darts. We recommend you use the highest-damage longneck you have because wild gigas have very high torpor.
Make sure you have a lot of narcotics with you once the giga is knocked out because its torpor drain is also very high. You will need to keep force-feeding it narcotics to make sure it stays knocked out. Once knocked out, we recommend using exceptional kibble to tame it because of the taming effectiveness and how much meat they will need. If not kibble, you can use raw mutton, but this will severely reduce the taming effectiveness as well. Regardless of the food you use, eventually, it will get tamed if you keep an eye on the torpor level.
More info
Once tamed, they are very strong dinosaurs (although nerfed) and deal essentially the highest base damage of any dinosaur at the same level. This includes rexes and spinos. They will be very useful while moving around the map; just make sure not to make them rage because they can turn on you. If they take 80% damage to their health within a short window, they can go into a rage mode and turn on all your creatures.
