Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Pteranodon Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
Pteranodons are one of the first fliers you unlock in the game. They are also some of the most common to find flying around The Island. If you want a flier and want it quick, make sure to look for a good-level Pteranodon.
How to tame it?
These are common knockout tames. This means you will have to knock them out and feed them when they are unconscious to tame them. Since they are carnivores, they prefer meat and kibble. You cannot feed them berries to tame them, but you can feed them berries to keep them knocked out or wake them up faster. We recommend going for level-capped or close-to-level-capped wild Pteranodons so you get the best stamina and weight stats.
Since they are common dinos, we recommend looking around beaches, where they are usually found. They can also be spotted in the wild sometimes, but it is quite rare since they are passive dinos. They will flee when attacked, so you might want to trap them before you knock them out. We recommend using a simple bola to keep it grounded while you knock it out.
They are relatively weak dinos, so we recommend using a good longneck or a crossbow. Make sure to not aim for the head since this might deal too much damage and kill it instead. If the level is low enough, you can even use a club or slingshot to knock it down. Once knocked out, use a taming calculator like DodoDex to calculate how to tame it. It prefers regular kibble, mutton, and raw prime meat.
Will you need a saddle?
Yes, you will need a saddle to ride this dinosaur. It can be unlocked at level 38 and needs to be crafted before you can fly the dino around the map. They are relatively fast and can get you out of some tough spots early in the game. They don’t have the best health, speed, or damage stats, so you cannot really carry much when riding one. Despite this, they are great for resource runs and can carry some weight back to your base. You will likely trade them for an Argent later in the game, but they are still wonderful creatures to tame and fly.
