Ark: Survival Ascended features a huge overhaul to the typical Ark formula of taming and breeding. Despite its many delays, it has finally come out for PC players (the console version will be released soon), and these changes seem to make the game more interesting and fun to play. While we wait to see how these changes are going to affect the game, most methods and features of the original Survival Evolved have been transferred directly to ASA. This is also true for taming dinosaurs like Triceratops (Trikes, for short). While there are some new features and abilities, the method remains mostly the same. Anyway, if you are wondering how to tame a Triceratops in ASA, consider reading this guide until the end for more details.
Taming is a very important part of Ark. It is essential to finishing the story of the game. Taming dinosaurs and creatures also lets you access new areas and collect resources that you previously could not. They also protect you and die for you at your command, giving you a feeling of connection to them. It is also a very rewarding procedure to tame a dino and spend a significant amount of time playing alongside it. So, if you are new to the world of Ark Survival Ascended and are unable to tame a triceratops, this is just the guide you need.
Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Triceratops Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
Trikes are mid-sized herbivores you can find in multiple biomes in Ark. They are commonly seen on the beaches where most players choose to spawn. They can also be found in Forests and Arid biomes like deserts and hilly regions. These dinosaurs are some of the most recognizable, and they tend to share a lot of similarities with their cinematic depictions, like in Jurassic Park. These creatures are mainly useful when scavenging for resources and can also be used in PvP battles.
How to tame them?
Trikes are a knockout tame in Ark. This means you will need to raise its torpor meter till it falls unconscious, and then feed it to tame it. Since it is an herbivore, you can feed it berries, fruits, or kibble, and it will be tamed. This can be done with any tranq weapon. It can be a club, crossbow (with tranq dart), or longneck (with tranq dart). Since they are passive animals until provoked, you might want to invest in a trap or stand on top of something they cannot reach you on. When attacked, they will also charge at you and attack you.
Our method of taming them
What we recommend to tame this creature is to build a 2×2 stone trap with a wall. This will allow you to trap the animal and continue shooting it with tranq darts. If you invest in windowed walls, you will have an easier time. You will also need a ramp to get it into the trap. We also recommend that you do not aim for the head. Trikes have a debuff hitbox around their heads, which significantly reduces the damage and torpor they take when hit there. Aim for the legs and the rest of the body to knock it out quickly. Once knocked, feed it mejoberries or simple kibble to tame it quickly. Once tamed, you can equip a saddle and ride it.
Is there any other method to tame it?
Yes, there is. With the launch of ASA, there are now baby dinosaurs roaming around in the wild. These babies can be tamed passively. In order to tame a baby triceratops, you will have to first identify and kill the parent. Once this is done, you have to approach the baby and interact with it to begin taming. Then, you have to passively tame the baby and raise it to be fully grown. When grown, you can equip a saddle and ride it. This method also allows you to imprint a baby. This is something that is absent in a wild tame, and this gives the dino a buff when you are riding it. There is one downside to this method, however. If the baby matures while taming it, you will have to knock it out and take it that way. Additionally, if you don’t get a full imprint, you will not get the buff on the dino.
For this reason, we recommend taming very young babies or not taming them at all. If you don’t have tranq weapons or if the parents have already been killed by another dino, this is a method you can use to tame the trikes anyway.
