And, considering this, it did become the best game of 2023. Developed by Larian Studios, this adventure RPG is known for its complex world, full of possibilities. Well, despite the fact that it is such a detailed and well-developed title, the game is not free from bugs. So, if you too are unable to create a new character in Baldur’s Gate 3, consider reading this guide regarding the same.
Customization is a key aspect of gaming in today’s era. In every game, players look for customization options to enhance their in-game character’s looks, features, attributes, and whatnot. These features are also available and implemented in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, due to an unknown bug, some players are encountering a bug when starting a new game. As per a recent report, a player was unable to create a new character when starting a new save after the initial cutscene of the game. Instead of landing on the character creation menu, they are navigated to the “backroom” of the character creation menu, where the whole game is glitched out with a bunch of naked characters lined up. So, if this is the issue you are facing as well, continue reading to find out how to fix it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Unable to Create New Character bug: Is there any fix yet
Well, as of now, there haven’t been any official fixes related to this bug. So, for the time being, you will have to make do with the following workarounds:
1) Basic Restart
Before trying anything else, you should try to restart the game and then check whether the issue persists. If it does, then consider trying the next workaround.
2) Verify File Integrity
This bug can also occur when the game files are either missing or corrupted. So, to get rid of this issue, consider verifying the game files using Steam’s built-in feature. Here’s how:
- First, open the Steam client and head over to the Library.
- After this, right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3, and select Properties.
- Now, select the Installed Files tab, and click on the Verify Integrity of Game files option.
- Once the verification is done, launch the game and check whether the issue persists.
3) Remove mods
If you have installed a bunch of mods in the game, make sure to remove them and then launch Baldur’s Gate 3. Although mods are known to provide an enhanced experience in the game, there can be compatibility issues with some that can lead to this issue. So, if you have installed a mod recently after which the issue was encountered, make sure to remove it and try again.
4) Use Vulkan/DirectX
When launching BG3 via the Larian Launcher, you will get the option to choose the API of your choice to run the game. So, if Vulkan is already selected, consider switching it to DirectX and vice versa. Once the API is changed, launch the game, and then check if the issue persists.
5) Reinstall
If none of the workarounds provided any meaningful results, consider reinstalling the game, and trying again. First, uninstall the game from your PC, and before attempting to reinstall, make sure that you have removed all the residual/configuration files of the game that can be found in this directory: %LOCALAPPDATA%/Larian Studios/Baldur’s Gate 3/PlayerProfiles. Once the files are deleted, install the game again and check if the issue persists.
