It always feels good when you are destroying an opponent in a match in CS2. What if you are on the receiving end of a beating from your enemies? That’s why pretty much all modern action-shooting games allow players to watch replays of their previous matches, giving them the ability to learn from their mistakes. MOBA games allow players to watch their match replays without the need for additional tools. Well, Counter-Strike 2 also allows its player base to watch match replays. But if you don’t know how you can do so, consider reading this guide until the end for more details.
Watching match replays has always been a very important aspect when it comes to competitive PvP games. CSGO had this feature, and considering the fact that CS2 is an upgraded version of CSGO, it is no surprise that the same feature is included in the new game as well, but with better accessibility. This feature allows you to learn more about yourself, the mistakes you usually make in a match, and analyze your gameplay better, even if you are not a streamer who manually records all of their gameplay. That being said, let’s get right into the details.
Counter-Strike 2 (CS2): How to watch match replays
CS2 offers two ways for you to watch replays of your in-game matches. The first method utilizes the in-game feature, which is easy to use. Meanwhile, the second method is a bit complicated. It is more like a workaround than a method. However, you should know both of these methods.
Note: Only Ranked Matches can be replayed.
Method 1: Native Game Replays
- Open CS2 and wait until the main menu appears.
- Next, look in the top left corner, and you will see an old TV icon.
- Click on it, and now you will have access to your in-game match history.
- Choose the match you want to watch the replay of and press the Download button located at the bottom-right corner.
- Wait until the download is finished, and then press Watch. That’s it! Now you can simply replay your past match inside the game itself.
Method 2: Workaround from CSGO
This is a workaround that CSGO players often used. Well, the same workaround can be used to download replays from CS2 as well. The process is a bit complicated, but if you follow the steps correctly, you will have no issue.
- First, download and install 7zip via this link.
- After installing, go to the directory in which CS2 is installed in your system, and create a new folder called “replays”. The default directory should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo.
- Now, you will need to download the replay via Steam. To do this, open the Steam client, go to your Profile, and select the Games option. Here, find CS2 on this list, and then press the “My Game Stats” button. Now, from the drop-down menu, choose the “Username Personal Game Data” option. In this new menu, select the Premier Matches option and download the match replay of your choice by pressing the “Download GOTV Replays” button. After this, save the file with any name in a particular directory.
- Now comes the actual process. After you have tackled your way through all that, you will have downloaded the replay file in a particular folder. Now, rename the file with the .dem.bz2 extension. File name example: “Demo1.dem.bz2“.
- After this, copy or move this file to the “replays” folder you created in the game’s directory.
- Now, right-click on the “Demo1.dem.bz2” file and select the “Extract here” option.
- Make sure the extracted file has the “.dem” extension.
- Now, open CS2, and press the [`] or [~] button to open the console command.
- Type “playdemo replays/Demo1.dem”.
- Hit enter, and now you will be able to replay that particular match in-game.
