Cult of the Lamb save file disappeared issue: How to fix it?
For PC Players
Well, this workaround was shared by Death_Knight_Errant on Reddit. But before trying this out, do note that this method will only work if your saved files are not corrupted. That being said, here’s an explanation of the workaround:
- Identify the issue: If you see a red hat to the left of all three save slots and are unable to load or delete saves, you may be affected by this issue.
- Check Save File Integrity: So, now, go to the location where your save file is stored: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Massive Monster\Cult Of The Lamb\saves. The save file is typically named slot_0.
- Upload your save file to the save decryptor site. If it attempts to download a file back, your save is likely fine. At this point, if the save file you have turns out to be corrupted, sadly, there is no way to recover it.
- Disable Steam Cloud Saves: After confirming that the save files aren’t corrupted, right-click the game in your Steam library, go to Properties, and uncheck the “Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Cult of the Lamb” option.
- Backup Game Folder: Copy the entire Cult Of The Lamb folder (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Massive Monster\Cult Of The Lamb) to another location for backup.
- Delete meta_0 File: After taking a backup, in the saves folder (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Massive Monster\Cult Of The Lamb\saves), delete the meta_0 file.
- Enable Steam Cloud Saves Again: Launch the game, play for a while, save, and quit. Next, right-click the game in your library, go to Preferences, and recheck the “Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Cult of the Lamb” option.
- Upon relaunching the game, Steam may notify you of conflicting saves. Choose “Local Save”, and the issue should be resolved.
For Xbox Players:
- If you have an Xbox console, set the console in Offline Mode to stop cloud saves temporarily.
- Erase the saved game data in the console settings while in Offline Mode.
- Re-enable cloud saves on Xbox, but ensure the console stays in Offline Mode until you create a new, non-glitched save.
