So, from this, it becomes clear that the game doesn’t require high-end hardware to run. This comes in favor of the Steam Deck, as it doesn’t offer very good hardware specifications. Now, if you run Drug Dealer Simulator 2 on the Deck, you’ll notice that the game runs well, but to get better FPS, you will have to tweak the in-game settings a bit. Drug Dealer Simulator 2 crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it
Now, before trying these workarounds, you should know that Drug Dealer Simulator 2 is currently not officially listed as being a compatible title for the Steam Deck. Due to its recent full release, Valve might not have tested it, which is why the game doesn’t have any compatibility rating for now. That said, since there is no official compatibility, you shouldn’t expect any official fix for the crashing issue in-game. The only way to get rid of this problem is via workarounds. Here are some of the effective ones:
1) Restart Deck
The first and most basic workaround to fix game-crashing issues on the Steam Deck is to just restart it. There can be conflicting applications running, which is why the crashing issue is occurring. So, consider restarting the device and then launching the game to check if it crashes. If it does, try the next workaround.
2) Use Launch Options
The crashing issue can be a result of the DirectX version in use. So, you can run the game with a different DirectX version to check if the issue persists. For this, head over to the game’s tile in your Steam library, and then select the Options button. Now, click on Properties, and in the General tab, add the following command: “-dx11“. Doing so will launch the game with DirectX 11, hopefully fix the issue.
3) Switch Proton Version
Another common cause of crashing issues in games while running them on the Steam Deck is the version of Proton in use. An incompatible Proton version can cause crashing issues, which is why it is recommended that you try switching to a different one and then check if the crashing issue persists. To change the Proton Version, consider going to your Steam library, entering the game’s tile, and selecting the Options button. Here, select Properties, and then go to the Compatibility tab. Now, checkmark the Force Proton Version option and then select a Proton version. You can start with Proton Experimental and then switch to Proton GE if the previous one didn’t work. Experiment with different versions and eventually the issue should be fixed.
4) Verify Game Files
Corrupted game files are yet another cause of crashing issues in games. So, to rule out this possibility, it is recommended that you perform a file verification check via Steam. As mentioned in the previous workaround, go to the game’s Properties menu, and then select the Installed Files tab. Here, you will find the Verify Integrity of Game Files option. Select it and wait for the scan to be completed. Once done, launch the game, and check if the crashing issue persists.
5) Lower in-game Graphics Settings
If the game crashes after loading for a while, it might be that the Deck is unable to handle it. So, you will need to set the in-game Graphics settings to Low and then check if the crashing continues to occur.
6) Update Steam OS
An outdated system can also result in game crashes. This is the reason why an updated system is recommended for running games. To update the SteamOS, follow these steps:
- Begin by pressing the Steam button on Deck. In the new menu, select Settings.
- After this, head over to the System tab.
- Here, select the “Check for Updates” option. This will show you whether an update for the Deck is available.
- If an update is available, select Apply to download and install it.
- After the installation, run the game to check if the crashing still occurs.
7) Reinstall
If all else fails, there is only one thing left to do. A full reinstallation of the game might be the only way to fix the crashing issue of Drug Dealer Simulator 2 on your Steam Deck. So, begin by uninstalling the game and then installing it. But make sure that you are installing it on your Deck’s internal storage. Doing so should get rid of the crashing issue.
