Enshrouded is a souls-like multiplayer (co-op) action-adventure RPG that lets up to 16 players play together. Since it is an early-access game, there are a lot of bugs and compatibility issues that this game currently has. Despite this, the developers are making headway in this regard and the community is hopeful of a full release not only on PC but also for handhelds. Likewise, this article is all about whether Enshrouded can be played on the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck can run almost all games on Steam. The library is so extensive that you can play a lot of games before you run into issues with some of the games you play. Since Enshrouded is a multiplayer game, this means you are going to encounter players on PC as you play it on the Steam Deck. But to even play it on the Steam Deck, the game has to run on it first. So, does it run?
Enshrouded Steam Deck Support Details: Is it playable yet?
If you didn’t already know, Enshrouded is heading towards a console release as well. That means the developers are already working on a cohesive way to bring inputs other than the typical mouse and keyboard into the game. This also means it should be able to run on machines that are less powerful than a decently-specced gaming PC. All of this is good news for the Steam Deck and its users. This means the game will actually run (is already playable) on the Steam Deck. There are some issues, though.
How is it playable on the Steam Deck?
The game is not officially supported on the Steam Deck but you can still play it out of the box. What this essentially means is that there are going to be some issues with performance and controls when you play Enshrouded on the Deck. Currently, the main issues with the game are the choppy FPS, lackluster performance, and constant crashes. The game crashes a lot on the Steam Deck, and this has been reported by many. This is an issue players have been complaining about for a long time and there are workarounds too.
What about the other issues?
Since the other issues are mostly compatibility and hardware-based, there isn’t anything you can do. Yes, you can remap controls to make them playable on the Deck but that is a technical and complex process. The FPS issue is a much easier one to solve. You simply need to turn down the in-game Graphics settings to get a boost in FPS. Unfortunately, even with the lowest settings, the game is quite demanding. What this means is that the developers will need to step in and optimize the game better. We can only hope this will be solved with a full release on Steam but in the Early Access version, it is a hard sell. In addition to these issues, the non-official (non-verified) support on Steam Deck casts shadows of doubt over its long-term viability. If these issues are sufficiently addressed before the game’s full release, we are sure that the game will be more popular on the Deck, than on PC or other consoles.
