The pandemic led to the rise of many online education platforms and among the most used ones is none other than Google Classroom. It is basically like a virtual classroom where students can join classrooms based on the subjects they want to study. Well, similar to a real classroom, you also need to submit assignments or homework that your teacher assigned in Google Classroom, and that too by the given deadline. Now, while you are busy working on your assignments and just barely managed to complete them minutes before the deadline, you wouldn’t want to encounter errors while uploading the file, right? But if you are reading this, chances are that you must have come across a weird issue in Google Classroom due to which you are unable to submit your assignment as the “There was an error turning in your assignment. Please try again” pop-up appears. Don’t worry; you are not alone in this race against time. If you have some time left before the deadline expires, you can try a bunch of workarounds listed here that might fix the issue for good.
Well, if you are able to upload the assignment but are receiving an error after pressing the Turn In or Mark as Done button, it can mean that the recipient’s Google Drive is full. Another possible cause of this issue is that you are trying to upload a Word file. In such a case, there are a few workarounds worth trying.

As stated already, this issue can occur due to multiple reasons, which is why you have to try a bunch of workarounds. Some of the most effective ones are shared as follows:
1) Convert Word file to Google Docs
If you are trying to submit a Word file, it is advised that you first convert it to Google Docs and then upload it. Doing so is quite easy. First, upload the Word file to your Google Drive and then right-click on it. Here, you will find the Open with option. Select it and then select Google Docs. Once the document loads in Google Docs, select the File option and then click on Save as Google Docs. This will create a new Google Docs file of the Word file that you uploaded. Now, change the Share setting of that file to Anyone with the Link and then upload it via Google Classroom. Doing so should fix the issue.
2) Rename File
Another workaround that might do the trick is to rename the file you uploaded to Google Drive and then upload it to Google Classroom. For this, go to Google Drive, right-click on the uploaded document, and select Copy. Now, paste the copied document into any of the folders of your Google Drive. Once copied, rename the copied file and then try uploading it to Google Classroom.
3) Log out/Log in
If the issue persists, you can try logging out of your Google account that is linked to the browser and then logging back in. Make sure you are signed in with the correct account before trying to upload any files. Also, try removing any additional accounts that are linked to the browser before uploading files.
4) Reload page
Multiple users have shared that simply reloading the page after encountering the issue fixed the problem for them. So, give this workaround a try as well.
5) Contact Recipient
One of the most common causes of this issue seems to be related to the recipient’s Google Drive account. If the recipient’s Google Drive account is full, you will not be able to turn in the assignment. To fix this, contact them and ask them to check whether their GDrive storage is full. If so, deleting some files will fix the issue.
