The GPD Win 4 is a gaming handheld that has a remarkable feature that sets it apart from the rest of the crowd. It has a full keyboard. While other handhelds have a controller-based layout and a touchscreen, this has those features in addition to a full keyboard. Windows as an OS was not designed to have a touch screen or a controller so this is really a boon for a lot of people that enjoy handheld gaming. Unfortunately, it is not as well designed as the others in terms of the user interface and you can sometimes face issues like the device not booting. Well, if that’s indeed the issue you are encountering, consider reading this guide until the end for workarounds.
A device that is not booting up is a serious issue. This is horrible for the device itself since it might be due to the battery, the OS, or even the games you have installed on it. Solving this is also sometimes a technical nightmare if you don’t know what you are doing. Luckily for you, we are here to hold your hand through it all and guide you with steps on how to solve this issue.
GPD Win 4 not turning on & booting: How to fix it?
The issue where the handheld console does not boot has been noticed for some time now. This is likely a software issue since the device works fine after startup or when in use. Well, there are some effective workarounds for you to try and fix it.
1). Try Force Boot
If the device fails to boot up, you need to force-boot it. To do this, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. This will initiate a force boot. Once the device is on, try the workarounds shared below.
2). Charge it
If the device doesn’t boot up after a force boot, consider plugging it into a power source and leaving it for at least 15 minutes. After this, try the force boot method and then check if the device boots up.
3). Change System Profile
This issue has been noticed consistently among players who have modified the AMD Adrenaline Software System Profile from Default to Gaming Mode. While we don’t know why this causes an issue, our recommendation is to restore the System Profile to Default after playing the game or before shutting down the device. Doing so will most likely fix the issue.
4). BIOS Reset
The second most common reason for this issue is that there is a problem with the system itself. To solve this, you have to manually reset the device. The first step is to force it to shut down. Once done, follow these steps;
- Take a paperclip or a small pin and insert it into the small reset hole on your device. Keep it pressed for at least 30 seconds until you hear the device running.
- Now, let go of the reset key and wait for some time. If you are lucky, the GPD logo will pop up, booting up your device.
Once you perform these steps, the device should be reset, and it should now boot up normally.
5). Update the BIOS
This is a technical step that requires a lot of preparation. Here are the steps you need to follow to successfully update the BIOS on your machine;
- Begin by formatting a USB stick to a FATF32 format. Once done, install the BIOS update from here and extract it to the USB Stick.
- Now, insert the USB into your handheld device and proceed to force restart it by holding down the power button.
- Once done, immediately press the FN key and tap the F7 key to enter BIOS (when starting up).
- Now, you can see the BIOS Boot Order. Here, select the Boot from USB option.
- The USB with the BIOS Update will now begin the boot. This will update your BIOS.
Once you do this, your BIOS settings will also be reset, so the boot will take a little longer. Make sure to connect the device to a power source during this time to make sure the device does not shut off midway.
With these steps, you should be able to fix the device not booting up issue in GPD Win 4. If you found this guide helpful, make sure to visit Android Gram daily.
