If you’re looking to start a honey farm in Minecraft, then this article is something you will definitely need. Find out how you can get bees in a beehive in Minecraft and easy ways to commence your apiculture journey.
Starting a bee farm:
The initial stages of creating a bee farm are where all the work and exploring are done. The player will first have to find a naturally generated ‘Bees nest’ in their world. Bees’ nests have a small chance of spawning on ‘Oak’ and ‘Birch’ trees in specific biomes. Another easy way of obtaining a naturally generated bee nest is by growing an oak or a birch sapling near some flowers. The saplings that are grown by placing some flowers in its vicinity have a small chance of spawning in with a bee nest.
If you find a bee nest that is far from where you want it to be, you can collect it easily using a tool enchanted with ‘Silk touch’. Make sure that you do not attempt to break the nest without a silk touch tool. If you do, the nest will get destroyed and the bees inside will start attacking. And the fact that bees in Minecraft die after they sting a player makes it even worse. So if you are not careful, you can lose, the ‘already difficult to find’ beehive in Minecraft.
Wait for nighttime to approach. This is when all the bees return into the nest. Then collect the nest with a silk touch tool and place it wherever you want. This completes the initial stage of obtaining a bee nest.
Bee mechanics:
The bees fill up the beehive by collecting pollen from the flowers throughout the day. So the next thing you need to do is, place a bunch of flowers around the beehive. This will let the bees work through the day and fill up the bee nest with honey. Once, the nest is full of honey, collect honeycomb from it by right-clicking the nest with shears. Make sure you place a ‘camp fire’ below it before doing so. Read more about this in the following article – How to get Honeycomb in Minecraft?
Craft a beehive and place it near the bee nest you already have. With this, we can move on to the next step in creating a bee farm.
Getting bees in a beehive in Minecraft:
After you have placed the beehive you crafted near the nest, you need to start breeding the bees. A bee’s nest or a beehive in Minecraft can only have up to 3 bees inside it. So, the idea here is to breed the bees you already have which will make them occupy the beehive. Right-click two bees using any flower. This will trigger the breeding mechanism and spawn a ‘baby bee’. If you already had 3 bees occupying the bee’s nest, the new baby bee should automatically make the ‘beehive’ its home.
As you keep on breeding bees, you will have to place more and more beehives for them to occupy. Also, place more flowers for them to pollinate. Place a campfire under every beehive to stop the bees from attacking you when you collect honey or honeycombs.
Additional tips:
1) Do not attach the bees to a leash or lure them over with flowers to the place you want. Because bees in Minecraft tend to travel to ‘their own nest’ when nighttime arrives or when they want to deposit honey. They won’t just occupy a beehive you give them.
2) Cover the campfires you place under the beehives with a trapdoor. This is to protect the bees from burning themselves in the campfire flame.
