Crafting and building are two major in-game elements in 7 Days to Die. Although the game has been out for several years now, new players may find it overwhelming since it isn’t quite beginner friendly. Players can struggle to get hold of even the most basic raw materials, such as clay. Hence, in this guide, we will show you how to get Clay in 7 Days to Die on Xbox and PS4.
In 7 Days to Die, Clay is extremely valuable despite being an easily accessible material. Clay soil is one of the many materials required to craft various forge recipes. Additionally, they are used to craft in-game items from forge recipes such as anvils, glass panes, cooking pots, cement, clay roof blocks, and many more. So, you can imagine how essential this resource is. But how do you get it in the game? Keep reading to find out.
How to get clay in 7 Days to Die on Xbox and PS4
Craft a Shovel
The first step to acquiring clay is to create the tool that will help you dig, i.e., a shovel. To collect clay, you can do fine with a Stone Shovel. To craft a Stone Shovel, you need 5x Small Stones, 3x Plant fibers, and 3x wood. You can also loot shovels as you explore the world.
Where to Find Clay (Lump of Clay)
Finding clay in the open world is relatively easy. First, open the in-game map by pressing the Square button (PS4) or Cross button (Xbox One) of your controller. On the map, notice that there are a lot of whitish-grey (sandy) patches. Put a map marker on the nearest white patch and start heading toward the marker. When you reach the destination, you need to look for clay. Don’t worry. Identifying clay is easy since a patch of clay is usually brownish while the rest of the non-clay patch of land is green.
How to get Lump of Clay
To dig clay, open your inventory and equip the Stone Shovel. You can also use a Stone Axe to pick up clay, but the process is relatively slow. Anyway, look at the brownish ground with the shovel equipped and start digging the patch of land. Notice that you get Lump of Clay in your inventory, not Clay. More on that in the upcoming section. If you’re done digging one patch, head over to another whitish-grey patch on the map. Rinse and repeat until you have enough.
How to get Clay
When you are satisfied with the amount of Lump of Clay you have, head over to a nearby Forge. Now you need to smelt them. To do so, make sure you have them equipped. Next, approach the Forge and press the Triangle (PS)/Y (Xbox) button on your controller to use it. When the Forge interface opens, drag the Lump of Clay stack from your inventory to the empty box under the Smelting heading. Next, make sure the Forge is fuelled. If not, we recommend you gather fuel and come back. When you’re done, click on the Turn On option to start smelting the Lump of Clay and converting them into Clay. You can see the Clay counter increase each time a smelting cycle completes. Once enough clay is smelted, make sure to transfer them into your inventory.
