How to make a lectern in Minecraft?

A lectern in Minecraft is the ‘workbench’ for a ‘Librarian villager’. Making a lectern takes a few ingredients that can be found quickly if you are smart about it. We will share with you the easiest way to make a lectern in Minecraft and also other important facts surrounding this block.

Steps to make a lectern in Minecraft:

A lectern in Minecraft requires 2 items to craft – ‘Wooden slabs’ and ‘Bookshelf’. Wooden slabs won’t even take a minute to get. Just chop down two logs and turn them into planks. But a bookshelf is something that might be tricky to acquire. To craft one bookshelf a player will need 3 books and 6 planks. Each book needs 1 leather and 3 paper to make. So that’s a total of 3 leather and 9 paper.

But a better way to go about this would be to find a village. A house with a lectern and a few bookshelves, spawns very commonly in a village in Minecraft. Try looking for a few villages before you go about crafting a lectern yourself. If a village has a librarian, it definitely has a house with a lectern. If you are not able to find it in a village, only then you should consider crafting the block yourself.

As mentioned above, to craft a lectern in Minecraft, you will first need to craft a bookshelf. Collect paper from sugar cane and leather from mobs like, cows and horses. After you are done crafting a bookshelf, grab a couple pieces of logs and turn them into planks. Now, arrange the slabs and the bookshelf as shown in the image and you will have a lectern for yourself.

How to use it:

The major use for the lectern is in the form of a workbench for the librarian villagers. Keep placing and mining the lectern near a librarian to get your desired enchantments as a trade. Doing this refreshes the trade provided by that villager. You might have to cycle the trades a bunch of times before you get what you’re looking for.

Players can also right click the lectern with a ‘Book and quill’ or a ‘Written book’ in hand to place it on the lectern. After it is placed on the lectern, players can right click the lectern again to read the book. This has a better use in a multiplayer world as many players can read a book and quill or a written book placed in a lectern, at once.

1) ‘Axe’ is the tool which is most efficient in mining a ‘Lectern’ in Minecraft. The lectern can also be mined using any other tool.
