Kingdom Eighties is the latest entry in the indie hit Kingdom series by Raw Fury. Launched on June 26, 2023, on PC, the game is also set to release on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch later this year. Taking the usual Kingdom series approach, you will play as The Leader to try and save your town from the series’ staple monster, Greed. Reception around the game has been pretty positive, with praise going towards the simple management side of the game and the great visuals. Now, one thing that many players in the community have been asking about is the addition of a co-op/multiplayer mode in Kingdom Eighties.
Co-op/multiplayer modes are always a welcome addition to games. But not all games are suited for it, and some players prefer playing games alone. So, now that Kingdom Eighties is officially here, the players can’t stop asking about the release date for co-op/multiplayer modes. Let’s find out when/if the developers are planning to release one!!
Kingdom Eighties Multiplayer/Co-op Release Date: When it will be available
At the time of writing this article, Kingdom Eighties doesn’t have a release date for a multiplayer/co-op mode. Now, many players in the community did raise questions about including a co-op/multiplayer mode in the game, and the devs did give a reply.
GordonVanDyke, a developer on the Kingdom Eighties dev team stated the following on a Steam discussion post about the implementation of co-op:
“K80s at it’s core is Kingdom gameplay experience, but deviates around after that core and does not play in a way that made sense for coop. Not trying to force coop in allowed us to keep the freedom of the original design that started before Kingdom Two Crowns was released, which stuck closer to the original games design. Also, K80s is and was always intended to be a parallel experience and not a replacement to KTC. It also doesn’t define the future of new Kingdom games after K80s. Hopefully this makes more sense, we promise a worthy experience into the Kingdom franchise regardless if the game is single player or coop.”
From the reply given, it’s pretty clear that Raw Fury doesn’t plan to release any multiplayer/co-op modes for the game. But are there any chances of them overturning this decision? Well, to be honest, the chances of that happening are pretty slim. Kingdom: Two Crowns, arguably one of the most popular games in the Kingdom series, did offer a co-op mode. The same could happen for Kingdom Eighties too, but it depends on the developmental priorities of the studio.
The developers clearly stated in the description of the game that Kingdom Eighties is a strictly single-player standalone expansion for the Kingdom series. All in all, it doesn’t seem like they will release a multiplayer mode for it anytime soon, or maybe ever. However, as of now, we will need to take a wait-and-see approach.
