Many players who got their hands on this Soulslike have complained that the sharpness of the in-game world is too high. While ideally, sharper images are a good thing, there is a point where it becomes too much and you have to turn it down. This appears to be a problem for many players playing this game. So, how do you lower sharpness in Lords of the Fallen? Continue reading for more information.
Sharpness is essentially the clarity of the in-game visuals on your screen. While in most cases you want it to be as sharp as possible, there are some scenarios where too much sharpness reduces the overall visibility. This is especially true in darker areas, where the sharpness of textures and interactables on the screen makes it harder to see if toned incorrectly. Lords of the Fallen apparently fell short in this aspect. Many players have been finding even the 0% sharpness setting too high for their liking. So, we have shared some workarounds using which you can adjust this setting and get an immersive experience.
Lords of the Fallen (2023): How to lower Sharpness?
Sharpness is, at the end of the day, a display setting. This means you can control it in a few ways. Luckily for players, there are a bunch of options that they can tweak. Here are a few of the methods.
1). In-game Settings.
You can head over to the Graphics settings in-game and turn down the sharpness to a level you find comfortable. This is the first step that you should take before trying any other method. If you are comfortable with the sharpness setting after turning it down, you can continue playing as you were. If not, try the next method.
2). Edit Engine.ini file
If the above workaround does not work, you can head to the engine.ini file found in the following directory: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\LOTF2\Saved\Config\Windows. Now, open this file using Notepad, and add the following commands;
[SystemSettings]
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0
Also, before doing this, make sure to keep a backup of the engine.ini file before making any changes.
3). Monitor Settings.
The next method is to reduce the sharpness setting of your monitor. You can manually tweak the display output in the monitor settings to make the visuals less or more sharp. Try this out, and check whether the in-game sharpness is toned down.
3). DLSS and FSR.
If DLSS or FSR is turned on, try turning them off via the in-game Settings menu, and then check if the issue persists. Then, try reducing the Resolution Scale to 75%. Doing so might also fix the issue.
4). Modding.
You can always go the mod route to make your life in the game easier. However, Lords of the Fallen does not support modded multiplayer at all. If you use mods, you effectively force yourself to play in offline mode. If you are okay with this, you can try this mod to reduce the sharpening in the game.
