You are playing Lords of the Fallen, and you start sprinting in-game. You suddenly notice the game feels laggy and choppy. You find that your in-game FPS has dropped into the low 30s. You have a top-of-the-line graphics card, and you wonder why this is happening. Well, it turns out you aren’t alone in facing this issue, as a lot of people are wondering the same thing. Lords of the Fallen has some issues with FPS stutter and lag, specifically when you are moving and interacting with objects. This is normal for games that are recently released. Regardless of your graphical hardware, it is possible you have faced this too. If so, consider reading this guide until the end.
While the developers have released patch updates to fix various in-game issues, here are a few workarounds for you to try to overcome this problem. Do note that they are temporary fixes for the issue, and a permanent fix can only be provided by the developers. So, without any further ado, let’s get right into it.
Lords of the Fallen (2023) Low FPS & Stuttering Issue: Is there any fix yet?
As mentioned before, these workarounds are not official and are a temporary fix to issues you might be having with FPS stutter right now. We recommend you try them until there is an official patch. These workarounds will work regardless of the GPU you are running the game on.
1). Restart the game.
Some players have reported that restarting the game after experiencing FPS drops fixed the issue for them. While this doesn’t guarantee that you won’t be facing the same problem again, this simple fix is worth trying as it is the easiest.
2). Lower graphical settings.
While lowering in-game graphics can boost the in-game FPS, it also contributes to a much less immersive gameplay experience. If you are really struggling with FPS, we recommend lowering the in-game Graphics settings a little bit and observing. The ideal Graphics Preset you must run should be Medium or High depending on your PC’s specifications. Doing so will balance the overall quality and allow you to play with the maximum FPS. If this does not work, you can freely tweak the settings to your liking. If you have an RTX-capable card, we recommend using DLSS to boost performance even further.
3). Update Graphics Drivers.
Make sure you are running the latest Graphics Drivers for your GPU. This can minimize issues with the game and allow for a smooth experience. If they are not their latest driver version, you can find the latest versions for them here:
Download and install them for the best results.
4). Lock in-game FPS to 60.
Well, performing this simple workaround seems to have worked for a lot of players. Locking the in-game FPS to 60 eases the load on your GPU, thereby giving a steady performance rather than a choppy one. With a 60 FPS limit enabled, you can also turn up the quality settings. So, head to the in-game Settings menu, and find the 60FPS limit option. Make sure to set it On.
5). Don’t overclock.
If you overclock your CPU/GPU, you can be contributing to instability and lowering the overall health of your components. In order to get the best performance in this game, remove any overclocking done, and restore the default clock speed settings. After this, launch the game, and check whether the issue persists.
6). Verify the integrity of game files.
This issue can also be caused by corrupted files. Verifying the integrity of files might help solve those issues. Here is how to do this;
Steam
- Open the Steam client, and head over to the Library tab.
- Now, find LotF and right-click on it. Now, select the Properties option in your Steam library.
- From there, head to the Installed Files tab and select the verify the integrity of game files option.
Epic Games
- Open EGL and select the Library option.
- Now, right next to the game’s tile, click on the three dots option and select Manage > Verify.
- After the scan is complete, launch the game and check whether the issue persists.
7). Turn off background apps and overlays.
Background apps and overlays like the MSI Afterburner and Steam overlay actually take a lot of performance out of the system you are using. If you want to maximize your system’s performance and keep the FPS stable, we recommend disabling these overlays and background apps entirely.
These are all the workarounds you can try to fix the stuttering and low FPS issues in Lords of the Fallen. If, despite trying all these workarounds, you still face this problem, we recommend reaching out to the developers or waiting for an official patch to be released.
