Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 3rd-person hero shooter that features a ton of characters from the Marvel Universe. Being an F2P game, it relies heavily on in-game purchases to generate revenue. While a ton of content can be accessed for free in the game, most are locked behind a paywall. To get access to these items, you will need to buy the premium currency that the game offers and that’s Lattice. However, as per recent reports from players, it seems that many are unable to buy it via the in-game purchase option. So, if you too are encountering the same issue, consider reading this guide for workarounds to fix it for good.
Players have been complaining about the long loading screen they encounter whenever they try to purchase Lattice in Marvel Rivals. Some report that they get locked out of the menu when initiating the purchase, while for others, the menu just keeps on loading. Interestingly, this issue is exclusive to the Steam version of the game, as no reports of the same on the EGS version have been reported yet. This makes it pretty clear that the issue lies within Steam. Now, this is not ideal for a game that relies on in-game purchases for revenue, but unfortunately, the developers have not yet released a fix for it as of writing this guide, although it has been acknowledged.

So, while it is expected that a fix will be released soon, there’s no definite release date for the same. That being said, consider trying out these workarounds.

Restart the game and your PC
Well, starting with a very basic troubleshooting method: restarting both the game and your PC. After restarting both, check whether the issue persists. If yes, consider the next workaround.
Disable/Enable Steam Overlay in Marvel Rivals
Many have had success in getting rid of this error by simply disabling and then enabling Steam Overlay for the game. To do this, go to Steam, access the Library, and right-click on Marvel Rivals. Now, select Properties, and then in the General tab, uncheck the Steam Overlay option. After this, enable it again. Now, launch Marvel Rivals to check whether you can purchase Lattice now.
Make sure Steam Overlay is On
If the Steam Overlay setting is greyed out in Marvel Rivals, that means that the setting is turned off globally. To enable it, go to Steam and select the Steam option. Now, click on Settings, and then switch to the In-Game tab. Here, make sure the Enable Steam In-Game Overlay setting is enabled. After this, launch the game, and then press Shift+Tab to check whether the overlay can be accessed. If yes, then initiate the purchase to check whether it works.
Switch to a different payment method
You can try using a different payment method to purchase Lattice in-game. This is a temporary solution, although there’s no guarantee that it will work.
Clear Steam Download Cache
For this workaround, go to the Settings menu of Steam, and in the Downloads tab, select the Clear Download Cache option. After doing so, launch the game and then check whether the overlay loads by pressing Shift+Tab.
Disable overlays of other applications
If you are running applications like Discord or Nvidia GeForce Experience, chances are that the overlays of these applications are hindering the functioning of the Steam overlay. So, to rule out this possible, either manually disable overlay settings in each application that has an overlay or disable the applications before launching the game. Doing so might fix the issue.
Check Date and Time
Although it might seem unrelated, a player mentioned that incorrect date and time settings on their PC were the cause of the error. Even the slightest mismatch can cause this issue. So, access the Date and Time Settings of your PC and make sure that the Set Time and Date Automatically Setting is enabled. After this, restart your PC, and then launch Marvel Rivals to check whether Steam Overlay works.
Remove/Add Marvel Rivals from Library
If you are still unable to purchase Lattice, consider uninstalling the game and then removing Marvel Rivals from your Steam Library. To do this, simply right-click on the game and select Remove From Account. After this, go to the Steam Store and then find Marvel Rivals and install it. After this installation, again make sure that Steam Overlay settings are enabled for the game. Now, launch the game, and the issue should hopefully be fixed.
Reinstall Steam
If even the previous workaround didn’t fix the issue, then all there’s left to do is reinstall Steam on your PC. Maybe this issue is related to the current version of Steam installed on your PC. Although Steam is updated automatically, there can be unusual errors sometimes. So, consider uninstalling Steam and then reinstalling it again. The downside to this workaround is that you will have to download all your installed games again.
Wait for the upcoming update
The Winter update for Marvel Rivals is just a few days away from its release. Scheduled for 20th December, the update will bring a whole bunch of new content to the game, including skins, and hopefully a fix for this issue. So, if none of the workarounds provided in this guide have been of any help, then consider waiting for the update to be released. Once live, update Marvel Rivals and then check whether you can purchase Lattice.
For now, these are the only workarounds available to fix the in-game purchases bug in Marvel Rivals. We hope that you find this guide informative. If you did, consider visiting Android Gram for more such interesting reads on all the latest gaming trends.
