So, basically, there are two ways to get a Metal Coat in PBDSP. One way is to acquire the National Pokedex and head over to Iron Island and the other is to use thief on steel-type pokemon to get a chance to acquire a Metal Coat.
First Way
You can get a Metal Coat in the game by visiting the house situated in Iron Island. Head over to Canalave City and search for a sailor with a boat. Interact with him and select Iron Island as your destination. Once you have reached the island, enter the house with a green door. You will find a character named Byron. Interact with him after acquiring the National Pokedex and he will hand you a metal coat.
Second Way
If you haven’t got your National Pokedex yet, then this method is for you. To get a Metal Coat, head over to the Grand Underground and visit your secret base. Once you are inside, make sure you have placed some steel-type pokemon statues inside to increase the spawn rate of Steel-type Pokemon. After that, head over to an area in the Grand Underground named Spacious Cave. Keep an eye for a Magnemite in Spacious Cave that has a 5% chance of dropping a Metal Coat once you use Thief.
