Rust has been one of the most popular games in the survival genre. Why? Well, one of the many reasons is its realistic mechanics and gameplay. The game was an early access title back in 2013 when it debuted, but in 2018, the full release was made available. Since then, it has seen a ton of changes. Well, in a game like Rust, communication plays a huge role. With the help of your team, you can take on enemies and raid bases effectively. But to communicate, you will need to use your system’s microphone. You might have access to a dedicated mic or a headphone with a decent mic inbuilt. However, the game will still use the default microphone to relay your voice. In that case, you will have to manually switch mic input in the game. But how? In this guide, we have shared all the details regarding the same.

While you might think that Rust being such a popular game will come equipped with all the basic features, the reality is a bit different. There are still many features missing in the game, including a character edit option or the ability to switch mics via the in-game settings. Yes, you can’t change mic input via the in-game settings of Rust. To do so, you will have to go to the Windows Settings of your PC and then switch the default microphone setting to force the game to use it. If you don’t know how, continue reading.

Changing microphone input in Rust via its in-game settings is not possible as of now. To do so, you need to access Windows Settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do the same:

  • First, press the Windows+I keys on your keyboard to bring up the Windows Settings menu.
  • Here, go to the System tab, and then select the Sound option.
  • Now, under the Input section, select the microphone you want to use.
  • After selection, the selected microphone will be the one that Rust will use.

While the process is quite simple, it requires you to either close the game or minimize it. This isn’t ideal. We hope that the developers will someday include this option in-game. Until then, you will have to repeat this process whenever you want to switch mics.

That being said, this was all about how to change mic input in Rust. We hope that you find this guide informative. If you did, consider visiting Android Gram for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
