What is Speech Services by Google?
An example of the Speech Services provided by Google can be the narration you hear while using Google maps. Speech Services lets applications read text aloud from the screen in a variety of languages. In simpler words, it converts text to speech, making information accessibility easier. However, a lot of users have complained of a glitch that pins a notification on their phone denoting that Google Services is updating and is waiting for a network connection. This is happening even though the device is connected to a fully functional and stable internet connection.

Reason for malfunction –
The stubborn notification started appearing after the release of an update for the Speech Services app. The update may be bugged or is unable to be complete for some reason. But, don’t worry! We will help you fix it in no time.
How to solve it –
1) Google settings:
You can get rid of ‘Speech services by Google’ by accessing the Google settings. To do that, go to Settings > Scroll down to the bottom > Google > Settings for Google apps > Search assistant and voice > Voice > Offline speech recognition
Once you are here, you will see 3 sections; Installed, All, Auto-update.
Tap on ‘Auto update’. There you will see 3 options. If you have ‘Auto-update over Wi-Fi only’ selected, switch to ‘Auto-update languages at any time’, and vice versa. Now restart your phone. The problem should not persist anymore.
2) Play store:
For this method, you will have to go into the Play Store and search for ‘Speech services by Google’. Tap on the app that pops up first. Now, tap on Uninstall. Now, tap on Install to reinstall the app. This should definitely solve the problem. If the issue still somehow persists, the next step will surely solve it for you.
3) Force stop:
Go to Settings > Apps and notifications > See all applications > tap on Google text-to-speech engine > Force stop. This step will definitely make the ‘Speech services by Google update waiting for network connection’ notification disappear.
