Voice chat is a crucial feature, especially when playing online multiplayer games. Communicating with your teammates is essential during completing group missions. However, if your friends are not able to hear you clearly, the existence of the feature is no good. Fortunately, you can fix this problem with some troubleshooting. Keep reading and follow the steps given.
Fixes for Steam voice chat not working:
1) Troubleshoot your microphone:
There are several ways to troubleshoot your microphone. The first thing you need to check is the connection. See to it that your mic is plugged in properly. Check for any signs of damage to the cord. Your microphone wire is supposed to be plugged into the pink connector. Inspect everything and make sure nothing is missed out. You can also try using the connector near the USB port at the front.
You should also check the drivers installed for your microphone. Open the Device Manager app and look out for any yellow warning signs. Yellow signs usually mean that a driver on your device could use an update. Even if there aren’t any warning signs, click on your microphone driver and check for updates.
You also need to make sure that the in-game microphone settings are set perfectly. You can test this by going into Steam and opening the ‘Friends and chat’ option. Click on the cog icon and test your microphone. This should help you fix the voice chat error on Steam.

2) Enable microphone:
Make sure that the microphone is enabled on your system. Open the Settings on your Windows system. Go to Privacy and select your microphone from the left panel. Enable the ‘Let apps use my microphone’ button. After that try using the voice chat on Steam.
3) Disable enhancements:
Enhancements can be a real nuisance if not set properly. Hence, it is best to just turn all the enhancements off. Right-click on the speaker icon on your taskbar. Go to the sound properties and disable all enhancements. Apply the changes and check the result of this step. You should now be able to use the voice chat feature on Steam.
4) Provide Steam with necessary permissions:
Go to Steam on your device. On the top left corner, click on Steam. From there, go to Settings > Broadcasting. Select Record my microphone and click OK to save the changes. Restart Steam.
Enjoy playing with your friends and yell at them all you want!
