Bandai Namco’s Tekken series just recently got another new entry into the long-running series and just like previous entries, it’s also a great fighting game. So much so that many are calling Tekken 8 the best Tekken game in the series, along with the likes of Tekken 3. And all of this has been possible thanks to the 30+ base roster and a solid fighting system. Now that Tekken 8 is here and playable, many have already started asking questions about the next mainline entry in the series.
Along with the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series, Tekken has remained an integral part of the fighting game genre. In 2023, the fighting game community saw the release of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, while in 2024, we finally got the long-awaited Tekken 8. And now the wait has started for Tekken 9. So, let’s go ahead and find out when it’s coming for PS, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
Tekken 9 Release Date for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, & PC
With Tekken 8 just released, it’s safe to say that fans won’t be seeing the next mainline in the Tekken series for a long time. But players can certainly look forward to the flood of DLCs coming in later for Tekken 8 and enjoy them.
It took Bandai Namco more than half a decade to release Tekken 8, and it’s likely that this will be the same case with Tekken 9. In case you didn’t know, since Tekken 6, there has only been one mainline Tekken game for each generation. Tekken 6 was made available for PS3, Xbox 360, and PSP, then Tekken 7 was released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the latest entry, Tekken 8, was launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. So, if we go by this release pattern, then the hope for Tekken 9 being playable on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, in particular, looks bleak. PC, on the other hand, we are more than sure about.
Apart from all this, there’s also no information available on Tekken 9. The ending of Tekken 8 did offer some hints at what the next chapter of the Mishima story could be about. Newcomer Reina is likely to be a major part of the next storyline, and we are sure to get more info on the actual status of Jun Kazama. There are a lot of questions and the answers to them will most likely be released when the next mainline Tekken launches. And for that, fans will have to wait a good many years. Certainly more than half a decade like previous mainline Tekken titles since Tekken 6. If we do get any information on Tekken 9, we will be sure to let our readers know all about it. Till then, you can enjoy Tekken 8.
