Tekken 8: How to swap character move set?

Tekken 8 is the newest flagship installment of the Tekken series. This has long been a beloved fighting game where skill and competition would get you to the top of the leaderboards. Fighting games have always been about customizing your fighting style and making it work for you. You get a set of defined character moves and how you use them is entirely up to you. This is a perfect example of restricted customization, where you have to work with the moves you have but your style can be uniquely yours. What if you could change the character move sets, though? Well, is it really possible in Tekken 8?

This is actually something that a lot of people wish for. Some characters are better than others in terms of moves but some are more versatile in terms of movement and situations. If you can swap around these movesets while keeping stats and other abilities the same, you can really make a custom fighter that suits your requirements the best. This will truly be the digital fighting avatar that you can fully control the way you want. But how do you do this? Keep reading to find out.

Right off the bat, we would like to point out that this requires 3rd party software, namely, Cheat Engine. If you don’t have it installed, you are not going to be able to swap around move sets. This is because the game itself does not allow you to swap move sets between characters. For this, you will need to install Cheat Engine and then follow the steps here:

1). Download Script

You will want to install the trainer script from here. This script will take effect when you use Cheat Engine and will allow you to swap moves when used. Once downloaded, make sure to run it once before you start the game to make sure it works with your version of Cheat Engine.

2). Run Cheat Engine

First, launch the game, and run the script. The script will execute itself in Cheat Engine so you will be good to go. Select Tekken 8 as the process and click on the little check box in Cheat Engine to load the script. Now, you are ready.

3). What to do?

First, you want to start a Player vs. CPU battle. Now, you want to select the character you want to swap the model of and head over to Cheat Engine. Follow these steps to swap the move sets and models;

  • Freeze the Tekken 8 menu in Cheat Engine by clicking on the little box.
  • Once done, look for the P1 Costume ID. Here, you will want to change the value to 51 and freeze it. This is so that the character and the move sets are locked in place.
  • Once you freeze the Costume ID, you need to input a string command in the P1 Costume Path section. Refer below for all costume string paths. You need to select the character you want to change it with and paste the string command here.
  • Once done, freeze this too, and head back to the game.

If you do all these steps, it should work immediately. In case it does not, pause the game, unfreeze the Tekken 8 option and refreeze it. This will solve the issue you are having with it.
