A new game has finally been released in the looter shooter genre. The First Descendant, developed and published by Nexon, was recently released on July 2, 2024; however, for players who pre-ordered, the game went live on June 30. 2024 has seen the release of a wide range of looter shooters, and that’s partly due to the fact that the pioneer in the genre, Escape from Tarkov, has been the recipient of major backlash from the community due to newly introduced absurd paywalls. Anyway, what’s also in trend in 2024 is the craze for handheld gaming, and this in fact goes to show that the handheld scene is growing day by day. That said, if you are indeed wondering about the compatibility details of The First Descendant with handhelds like the Steam Deck, Asus Rog Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go, consider reading this article regarding the same.

Being a looter shooter featuring a third-person perspective, it is obvious that The First Descendant is suitable for handheld gameplay. Although the game features intense battles, it is essentially a co-op game where players can team up and take on a common enemy. This fits well with the handheld concept and you can enjoy the experience wherever you go. But for that, the game has to support handhelds. So, does The First Descendant come with handheld support? Let’s find out.

Steam Deck

Unlike a few recently released entries from Nexon, The First Descendant currently lacks both the Playable and Verified tags for the Deck on Steam. This might be due to the fact that the game has just been released, and Valve hasn’t tested it out yet. So, we have to resort to player reports to get details regarding the game’s Steam Deck compatibility. Fortunately, as per player reports, The First Descendant, unlike its beta, works pretty well on the Steam Deck. Despite featuring EasyAntiCheat, it runs on the Deck when Proton GE or Experimental, is used. However, expect a few crashes since official support is not available. In terms of performance, you should get close to 30-35 FPS in-game in the Low settings preset too. Considering its system requirements, the Deck handles the game quite well. Here’s a gameplay video featuring the same:

Asus Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go

Both the Rog Ally and Legion Go are capable devices that can run The First Descendant without any issues. These devices run on the Windows OS, which is why there is no room for compatibility issues to occur. Performance-wise, the game should comfortably run at over 60 FPS, since the hardware on both of these systems is slightly better than the Deck. Here’s a gameplay video featuring the game’s performance on the Rog Ally:

However, considering that only partial controller support is listed on the game’s Store page on Steam, you might encounter some controller-related problems, including the lack of proper controller keybinds or support. The same goes for the Deck as well.

With that said, now you know all about the Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, & Asus Rog Ally support details of The First Descendant. If you find this informative, consider visiting Android Gram for more such interesting content.
